Motorola announced the Moto G this morning. Because of the leaks, there really wasn’t anything surprising except for on very big thing: the price. Motorola is going to sell the 8GB version for $179 and the 16GB for $199. We are talking unlocked and contract free.

The Moto G comes with a 4.5-inch 720p LCD TFT display, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, 2,070mAh battery, and Android 4.3. There was a rumor that Android 4.4 might be on board, but they did announced that it will arrive in January 2014.

Now you won’t be able to customize your Moto G through Moto Maker, but the Moto G offers a really cool feature: interchangeable backplates called Moto Shells. For starters, they will offer blue, teal, red, yellow, purple, white, and black. Plus there will be rugged versions and flip-style covers.

The Moto G isn’t going to blow you away with specs, but the price is very compelling and should do very well in many parts of the world. It’s on sale today in Brazil and in certain parts of Europe. The U.S. will get it this January.
