Intel-powered Lenovo K800 goes up for pre-order in China

Posted: 30 May 2012 03:02 AM PDT

Remember the Lenovo K800 smartphone that we spotted back at CES 2012? We told you then that the phone is coming out in the Asian markets in Q2 2012. True enough, one of the first Intel Medfield-powered smartphones and the first from a big name manufacturer, the Lenovo K800, is now up for pre-order. But only in China. Don’t get mad at us, because we also told you that the device will be released in Asia before hitting the global markets. So, we’re still right as of this moment.

Anyway, for those of you reading this post who happen to be in China and want to get hold of this Intel Atom-powered phone, you’ll be better off pre-ordering the handset right now. The Lenovo K800 goes out for 3299 yuan or around $520. If you pre-order it now, you’ll most likely get the device sometime in June.

The Lenovo K800 will sport a 4.5-inch 720p HD display, and be loaded with a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom processor, a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, 1GB of RAM, and an 8MP camera. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with no word on whether it will be upgraded to Android 4 ICS later on.

Don’t be fooled about the low key appearance of this handset. That dual core Medfield chip has already proved that it’s well worth its salt. Some benchmarks ran on the Lava Xol X900, the first smartphone to run Medfield, show that Intel’s new chip performs surprisingly well.

Now, tell us Lenovo – when are you bringing the K800 out of China?

Android 4.0 update for the Samsung Galaxy S2 is (finally!) available in India

Posted: 30 May 2012 02:34 AM PDT

There has been a lot of good news for Android and Samsung fans in India in the last week. First, the Galaxy Note got the upgrade to Android 4.0, available OTA or via Kies. There was later an announcement that all new Samsung Galaxy S2s that would be sold in India would ship with ICS out of the box. Leaving the best for last, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is already up for pre-order and will likely be available in the next two weeks.

But, all the good news did nothing to stem the increasing disappointment and anger felt by current Samsung Galaxy S2 owners, who have been eagerly awaiting the update to Google’s “latest and greatest” iteration of the Android OS. Galaxy S2 owners who swore by Samsung were almost on the verge of looking elsewhere for their next smartphone, even with the Galaxy S3 on its way, because of the lack of updates on the part of Samsung.

Well, the wait is finally over, and Galaxy S2 users have a reason to celebrate. The ICS update for the device is now available either OTA (Over-the-Air) or via the Samsung Kies software suite, for both versions of the phone, the GT-i9100 (featuring a dual-core 1.2 Ghz Exynos processor) as well as the GT-i9100G (featuring a dual-core 1.2 Ghz TI OMAP 4430 processor).

The 220MB update is rather large, so if you are doing the OTA update, it is recommended to do so over a WiFi connection, to avoid heavy data usage charges. As expected, other than the performance enhancement, the ICS update brings along with it a host of other features including:

  • Updated TouchWiz UI
  • Face Unlock
  • Re-sizable widgets
  • New People app
  • Mobile network data usage function

It looks like Samsung Galaxy S2 owners in India won’t have to look at other sources for their Ice Cream Sandwich fix after all. Samsung swooped in and saved the day just in time. Does “all’s well that ends well” apply here?

What are your thoughts? How happy/excited/relieved are you that the ICS update for the S2 is finally here? If you have already received the OTA update or done so via Kies, let us know your experience in the comments section below.

Best apps for nerds, geeks, and the info-adventurous

Posted: 29 May 2012 09:00 PM PDT

If you want to learn more about the world around you, technology has been moving in your favor. Though you might have gained a bit of a reputation as a child, spending hours at the library and reading every book that struck your fancy, the Internet has been advancing in your direction.

Information is literally at your fingertips and your search for knowledge has laid everything out for you. If you ever wanted to know more about an obscure painter, or how something worked, you could just get on Google and run a search for it.

Thousands upon thousands of websites crop up right after, all for your consumption. Since technology’s recent developments have focused on portability, it’s time for you to load up your Android device with apps to help you keep learning and to finally start walking around outside. Believe us, the sun will be good for you.

Google Goggles

The world around us is just brimming with information, so why hold back? Explore it to the fullest using Google Goggles. This app lets you search the real world by taking a picture. Google then uses image recognition technology to recognize objects and return relevant search results to you.

Say you’re in a new place, perhaps on a vacation or you just relocated to a new town, and you’re walking around, taking pictures. Use Google Goggles to identify that huge building or interesting statue and learn more about it with the information Google Goggles feeds back to you.

You can take a shot of anything, from products, famous landmarks, storefronts, artwork, to popular images. If you’re in a foreign land where you can’t speak the language, Goggles can translate words in English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian.

That isn’t all Goggles is good for. Scan barcodes using Googles to get product information, QR codes, add contacts by scanning business cards or QR codes, and scan text using Optical Character Recognition.

Wikipedia

Who of you still have a collection of Encyclopedia Britannica encyclopedias at home? Now, who of you spent days reading each volume from cover to cover and using them as reference for your school paper? Though the print industry has been floundering in the wake of paperless advancement, there’s still nothing quite like information condensed into sections for your easy perusal.

And, if you aren’t familiar with Wikipedia, you clearly haven’t been spending enough time on the Internet. Wikipedia’s official app for your Android device gives you access to more than 20 million articles in 280 languages.

No matter what part of the world you’re from, Wikipedia has got something for you. Simply type in what, or who, you’d like to know more about and voila! It is the most comprehensive and widely used reference work that humans have collectively compiled.

For the best browsing pleasure, Wikipedia should be enjoyed while you’re connected to the Internet. But, say you need to go somewhere, that’s no problem. Wikipedia lets you save articles so you can read them at a later time. If you want to share an article something interesting with your fellow nerds, hit the Share function.

TED

If you’re bored of reading, why don’t you open your eyes and ears for some of the most riveting talks by remarkable people, available for free. TED‘s official application for your Android device is a must-have if you want to keep learning about the world around you, without feeling your eyes glaze over when looking at walls of text.

You can access talks from some of the world’s most fascinating people, from psychologists such as Martin Seligman discussing positive psychology, to Myth Buster’s own Adam Savage discussing his own experience of obsession.

TED makes it possible for you to listen to education radicals, tech geniuses, medical mavericks, business gurus and music legends all from the palm of your hand. Access over 1,200 TEDTalk videos and audios, with more added each week.

When you launch the TED app, you can browse through the Featured videos, those in the Archives and even My Talks where you’ve bookmarked videos that matter to you. Check out what’s new or what’s popular. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Hit the search function. Though the app is free, it is also ad-supported.

Pulse News

If you’re a habitual web-surfer, you’ll have a number of websites that you check every day. I’m not talking about your e-mail inbox or your social network, but websites that deliver you the news and updates that you want to know more about. Having to manually browse to them, browse through any new updates, and then having to move on to the next one can be extremely tedious.

But, with Pulse News, you won’t need to waste precious time, waiting for a site to load. This application makes reading news fun and engaging. It takes your favorite websites and transforms them into a colorful and interactive mosaic. Tap on an article to view both a clean and elegant news story and the original website’s format.

If you want to read something later, save it for reading offline. You can even sync that saved article across all platforms with Read it Later and Evernote. Each week, Pulse News features new publishers so you’ll have more websites to track. If you’ve already got an RSS feed going on in Google Reader, import it into Pulse News so you can read all the articles you want in one place.

Google Currents

Want more of the latest news in one convenient place? Google Currents is a good alternative to Pulse News, able to give you beautiful free publications on your Android device and tablet. You can get access to publisher editions from Forbes, The Guardian, TechCrunch, PBS, Saveur, and more.

Imagine having in-depth articles, videos, fine photography, slideshows, live-maps and social streams at the tips of your fingers. Just like Pulse News, Google Currents allows you to read your Google Reader subscriptions right on your Android device. You also get a little extra in the form of Google Currents’ Google trending editions.

Step out of your little bubble and read up on five most recent trending stories in categories such as world, entertainment, sports, science and more. This is all possible through Google’s search technology, building a collection of the hottest topics hourly. Keep up with the latest news with Google Currents, available for free from the Google Play Store.

Kindle

Though keeping up with the latest, and sometimes the greatest, can be all well and good, nothing quite beats curling up with a book. Jump into someone else’s world through fiction or understand the past better with non-fiction and historical accounts. Regardless of your preference, books haven’t lost their appeal or use. But, carrying around an 800-page volume isn’t exactly convenient, especially when it’s hardbound.

Instead, make life easier and download Kindle for your Android device. You can access thousands of free books from Amazon, such as Pride & Prejudice and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. If you want to get newer books without the hassle of purchasing their physical copies, simply search for it on the Kindle Store, purchase it and start reading. You’ll be able to pack hundreds of books with you in the comfort of your device.

If you come across a word you aren’t familiar with, Kindle comes with a built-in dictionary so you can look up the word’s meaning without leaving the app. You can also use the Google or Wikipedia links to gain more information. Don’t be afraid of eyestrain because Kindle lets you customize your reading experience, from brightness, to background color.

Mindjet for Android

With all that reading, watching and browsing for information, your mind’s probably percolating with a number of ideas. Maybe you’ve figured out the snag in your research or, instead, you’ve been inspired to create something of your own. A theory, perhaps? A project?

Don’t bother getting a pen and sheets of paper because Mindjet for Android is an easier alternative to get your ideas out of your head and arranged for reference. Leave that notebook at home because Mindjet lets you visually capture and organize information with just a few taps of your Android device’s screen.

You can brainstorm with a group of people or just by yourself. Simply start a new map, give it a name and begin. The name you gave the map is now entered as the central topic and you can make branches for subtopics by double-tapping.

Mindjet also comes with a number of features such as text styling, topic styling, relationships, and tools for attaching files, links, and notes. You won’t have to worry about leaving your mind map on your device because Mindjet also supports syncing to Dropbox so you can see your mind map on your computer.

AndroIRC

So, you’ve got your ideas mapped out and you’re charged and excited to tell someone, but whom do you tell? You could go tell your friends, your family or total strangers. If you want to try making new friends, you can do that with AndroIRC.

In the earlier days of the Internet, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) was all the rage and it seems that a number of people still make good use of mIRC. Not the mainstream populace, no, but the truly hardcore geeks who don’t mind that IRC’s interface isn’t quite as snazzy as modern instant messengers.

For the nerd on the go, however, take IRC with you on your Android device. AndroIRC packs mIRC colors and lets you auto-join channels on startup. No more browsing around to get to that channel you love haunting.

As long as you’ve got an Internet connection, chatting with fellow geeks and nerds is easy. If you’re starting your own channel or you’ve been moderating one for a while now, you should know the top commands to re-assert your control on your channel. Kicking, banning and changing privileges is easy on AndroIRC with an easy access menu.

XDA-Developers

What kind of nerd would you be if you didn’t know XDA-Developers? The name should be familiar to you; it’s basically the birthplace of every great ROM, mod, and tweak available for Android devices. In fact, you may right now be using one of the popular ROMs cooked up by the devs on XDA.

Don’t just settle for reading about ROMs through Android sites. Jump right in there with developers and learn the lingo. Maybe you can even give feedback on the latest nightly you flashed to your device.

The official app of XDA-Developers, developed, well, by xda-developers, allows you to view the forums in a format optimized for your Android device. Browse the forums, read the latest threads on what’s cooking in  the kitchen, post a comment on a thread, send private messages to friends and more.

When you launch the XDA-Developers app, you can see the latest topics, the Forums tab, your favorite forums and topics, and check your private messages. You can download XDA-Developers for free from the Google Play Store. The free version is ad-supported, but if you want to do away with the ads, you can purchase the premium version with additional features for a small fee.

Osmos HD

After a long day of reading books, the latest news, watching TED talks, brainstorming ideas, chatting with fellow nerds and Android developers, it’s time to unwind with a game.  “Absorb or be absorbed,” the game warns. Osmos HD puts you in the Darwinian world of galactic mote.

You’ll need to absorb smaller organisms to survive and grow in this world, but what kind of game would this be without dangers? Watch out for large predators! Developed by Hemisphere Games, Osmos HD has nearly five stars to its name on the Google Play Store. That’s an achievement by itself, but it’s also been voted as Game of the Year multiple times.

With it’s sublime, hypnotic, and calming electronic soundtrack, Osmos HD lets you propel your mote through a sea of other organisms. Consume small life forms to get bigger, but beware of being absorbed into larger organisms.

You can enjoy two game modes, Odyssey with 27 levels through the Osmos Blobiverse, and Arcade, letting you play any of the 8 level types at your choice of difficulty. That means you can enjoy a total of 72 levels. Ready to evolve? If you’re not ready to commit to purchasing Osmos HD, download Osmos Demo for free from the Google Play Store.

That was our list of the best apps for nerds. It isn’t an exhaustive list, really, and we’re 101% sure we missed out on a lot of the other apps out there.  Though, we hope that these 10 apps will help you get started on your nerdy, geeky, or intellectual adventures.  If your favorite nerd app didn’t make it to our list, share it with us and fellow nerds in a comment below.

Defective back casing is why the blue Galaxy S3 is delayed

Posted: 29 May 2012 01:22 PM PDT

Boo, hiss, and all that. You've probably read and cursed at the news that Samsung is having production problems with the Pebble Blue version of the Galaxy S3, and how that particular model will be in short supply in the next 2-3 weeks. Here's a clue or two as to what might cause the delay.

Mobile Bulgaria, who happens to be in possession of the Pebble Blue Samsung Galaxy S3, apparently has noticed the appearance of large white patches on the back casing of the phone. The blotches are only visible at a certain angle. If this is the production error that Samsung was reported to be facing, the Korean company may have done the right thing by delaying the shipment. What's a couple of weeks delay if it means you'll get a non-defective handset, yes?

Sony Xperia S vs Apple iPhone 4S vs Samsung Galaxy 3 vs HTC One X: Camera Fight!

Posted: 29 May 2012 11:02 AM PDT

The advent of the smartphone has changed not only the way we communicate, but the way we go about our daily lives. The newspaper is now on your phone. High-speed internet capabilities and HD displays makes watching movies and TV shows on your handheld device an amazing experience. Your smartphone doubles as an mp3 player. The large number of games, along with all these features, means never being bored during a long wait. For the adventurous, you have your maps, compass apps, and even sky charts, if you’re into that sort of thing. And to capture all those amazing moments with friends, family, and also when you’re alone, you have the smartphone camera.

Until recently, one of the biggest gripes consumers had with their smartphones was the poor quality of the camera. The megapixels kept increasing, flash was added, but, there was something missing. It wasn’t time to get rid of that trusty point-and-shoot camera just yet. Maybe, until now.

It hurts me to say, but there is more to the world of technology than “just” Android. While only Android, all the time would be amazing and a pleasant scenario for the future, we here at Android Authority like to peek into other advances in this fascinating tech world. Let’s be honest, research conducted now(flexible AMOLED displays, battery tech advances, camera technology) will directly affect our future Android devices. As such, we have some great articles on the technology behind the whopping 41MP camera featured in the Nokia PureView 808 and an overview of the current state of smartphone camera tech, with some insight into the future.

nokia pureview 808

The latest high-end smartphones boast amazing cameras with a host of features that makes the need of a P&S camera redundant. That’s one more less thing you have to carry around now. Today, we pit some of the best devices Android has to offer, including the Samsung Galaxy S3, the HTC One X, and the Sony Xperia S, against each other and also against the iPhone 4S. You may be wondering why the relatively cheaper Xperia S is featured on this list. That is because while the other three devices feature 8MP cameras, the Xperia S boasts a 12.1MP camera.

Test Conditions

All images from the various testing conditions are courtesy of Natasha Lomas, the Mobile Phones Editor at CNET. You can read her complete review here.

“Test conditions” makes it sound quite serious, but it’s just everyday situations where you might be taking pictures, and includes:

  • Still Life
  • Depth of Field
  • Low Light levels
  • Flash
  • Indoors
  • Outdoors
  • Close Up

To give you a sampler of the tests ran by CNET, here are the shots in the Still Life category.

Samsung Galaxy S3

HTC One X

Sony Xperia S

iPhone 4S

With the Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X, the iPhone 4S, and the Sony Xperia S being packed with features, it’s not surprising that it is quite difficult to crown any of the smartphone cameras as the best. Each has its strengths and weaknesses in different scenarios, and as always, it boils down to personal preference. But, it does look like the 12.1MP Sony Xperia S is the least impressive of the four devices, even with its megapixel superiority. The poorer quality can possibly be attributed to its lower cost and hence, cheaper hardware, so that the next high-end Sony smartphone with a 12/13MP camera could stand strong against its competition.

It’s now up to you, the reader, to give us your final verdict. Which device do you think produced the best images in each category? Which device camera would be your overall choice? How big of a difference does the quality of a smartphone camera make to you? Let us know in the comments section below.

SoftBank unveils Sharp Pantone 5 107SH smartphone with radiation detector

Posted: 29 May 2012 09:29 AM PDT

While tech enthusiasts in the US and Europe are still getting used to seeing waterproof or dustproof smartphones, these features have been standard for a long time in Japan. However, aside from protection to water and dust, another "exotic" function is now being introduced in the "Land of the Rising Sun".

The new Sharp Pantone 5 107SH smartphone has been unveiled by SoftBank and is set to be the world's first ever handheld to come with an integrated radiation detector. That's right, this little guy should give you an accurate measurement of radiation in your area upon its release and all you’ll have to do is push on a dedicated physical button on the front of the device and wait for a few seconds.

Although that may sound like a very quirky feature to have on a smartphone for people in the US, you should know that Japanese have become alert to radiation levels ever since the "Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster" of 2011.

Sporting a 3.7-inch screen with 854 x 480 pixels resolution, the 107SH will be powered by a 1.4 GHz single-core processor and will feature a 4-megapixel rear-facing camera, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, the running of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as well as protection to water and dust.

As far as pricing goes, we have nothing official to report. The phone will be made available in mid-July, so we should find out soon enough how much money you'll have to pay to get this unique piece of technology.

RIM: BBM to remain exclusive for BlackBerry devices

Posted: 29 May 2012 09:14 AM PDT

In this part of the world, it's not unusual for folks to be carrying more than one phone. While the first phone can be anything from the Android, Nokia or Apple camp, you can always guess safely that the second phone might be a BlackBerry. Unsurprisingly, most people that do still carry their BlackBerry around are using it mainly for the BlackBerry Messenger feature to get in touch with friends, relatives and business associates – the latter is especially true in some Asian countries, where exchanging a BBM pin number is as customary as exchanging business cards. If BBM, as it's affectionately known, is available on other platforms – it's not hard to see why the decision to ditch the phone altogether would be an easier one to make.

So when ideas were being thrown about by previous RIM executives on making its highly addictive messaging feature available on Android and iOS devices, analysts were wondering why RIM would want to give up one of the phone maker's main unique selling points. After all, despite the continued free falling of RIM's market share in the smartphone world, the company said that there are still some loyal 55 million BBM users worldwide. Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsilie, the company's previous chiefs, may have been pushing for the opening up of BBM for other platforms and manufacturers; its recently appointed President and CEO Thorsten Heins, however, has decided to keep BBM strictly in the family.

Now, we don't know if the decision is something that he has taken because there's no taker in the licensing deal offer or if Heins has full faith that he can revive the flailing company. But it's safe to say that most Android and iPhone users will not be losing any sleep. There are many instant messaging solutions out there that work as good as BBM, with one particular app, WhatsApp, that look to be rapidly gaining popularity in the last few years due to cross-platform service and ease of use. Nevertheless, we still look forward to see what RIM has in store for BBM.

Granted, the news will be lamented by those who are addicted to BBM, either by need or necessity. In their case, there's no option but to have their pockets full with multiple smartphones.  Are you one of these people? Would you like to see BBM crossing over to other phone makers and platforms? Perhaps you're indifferent with the whole thing? Let us hear your thoughts below.

Receive Android device’s notifications on your PC via free DesktopNotifier app

Posted: 29 May 2012 09:04 AM PDT

Among the sea of various rooting solutions, custom ROMs, and technical advices that are available on the website of mobile software development community XDA-developers, you can also find a gem of an app like this one right here: DeskNotifier. It's a free app that connects your Android phones and tablets to your desktop — sending whatever notifications you receive on the device to your desktop screen. Quite neat, right?

You can use the app to receive notifications of calls, SMS, Viber, Astrid Tasks, Facebook, WhatsApp Messenger and a host of other third-party apps. While you can use it to send and reply text messages, unfortunately you can't reply to Whatsapp messages. The app now supports English and German, but we're sure more language support will come soon enough.

You can connect your Android devices to your desktop through WiFi or USB. It seems there's no authentication yet when you're trying to pair the device, so there's some potential privacy problem if you're living in close quarters, where others can accidentally connect to your Android device’s WiFi and receive your notifications. Another known kink is that if you have a third-party SMS client installed, you'll get double notifications.

Aside from those minor quips, the DeskNotifier works great for something that's still on version 1.0.0. It'll sure save a lot of time checking for those notifications on your phone and tablet when you can do it instead on your PC. You can download the app for free from the website and Google Play.

Best Android apps for awakening and unleashing your creativity

Posted: 29 May 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Everyone has her or his own set of talents. Some may have received the gifts of dancing skills, while others may be skilled in mixing colors and creating art. Talents and skills make humans special and these can be naturally acquired or actively nurtured.

For those who have a creative mind and want to improve their skills and talents, we have compiled some apps to awaken and cultivate your creative growth. These apps will help you nurture your gifts and, at the same time, have a great time with your Android device. So, here are the apps.

SketchBook Mobile Express

Artists need something to visually represent their creative ideas. Artists use different ways to present their ideas such as creating art on street walls, creating outstanding figures in stone, splashing colors on the canvas, and doodling on a sketchbook. For professional and wanna-be artists, you can create and practice your skills on your sketchbook. But if you want to preserve Mother Earth and save paper, you can try out SketchBook Mobile Express for your Android device.

This app is designed to help artists hone their craft while keeping their tools conveniently in their Android devices. The app includes basic tools such as a paint brush, an air brush, a pencil, a fill color bucket, and the irreplaceable eraser. Other features include undo, redo, expand, create new work, and a color selector.

For advanced users, you can also create layers and stack them up to create a magnificent piece of art. This app is perfect for those who own bigger-screen Android devices with a stylus pen. But, it can also be installed on smaller devices, as long as the device has a 1.0 GHz processor and about 500 MB of RAM.

What are you waiting for? Save more paper with SketchBook Mobile Express installed on your Android device.

Picasso – Draw, Paint, Doodle!

I remember the day when I first doodled for my humanities class. Doodling is quite easy. First, you will have to aimlessly draw a line without lifting your pen or pencil. Out from that blob of lines, find a recognizable object. My first doodle drawing was of a man siting on a chair with a heart on his desk. Doodling is fun and improves your creativity. You can doodle on your Android device with the Picasso – Draw, Paint, Doodle! app.

Aside from creating doodles, you can also make works of art with this app. The app includes basic art tools such as the paint brush, color fill bucket, and the eraser. You can also draw art on your photos. Load up your pictures from Picasso or your phone’s Gallery and make it your painting canvas. Draw some balloons on your birthday party picture. Add a funny moustache and a tattoo to your friend’s photo. And of course, doodle something to complete your unique piece of art. Doodle your way to a creative mind with the Picasso – Draw, Paint, Doodle! app.

Let’s Create! Pottery Lite

Clay is one of the media that professional artists and young kids use. With clay, they can visually form unique objects such as a clay pot, a vase, or even a pipe. But, if you don’t want to get your hands dirty, you can try out the Let’s Create! Pottery Lite app on your Android device.

This app lets you unleash your creativity and create your own one of a kind pots. You can make your pots look long and slender, or create pots with odd and interesting shapes. When you’re done, you can put your pots in the oven and have your own clay pot.

The app also includes some tools that allow you to decorate and add some style to your clay pots. Make them look like they’re from ancient Egypt or decorate them with the colors of the rainbow. Your creativity is your only limit for designing your pots. Once you’re done, show off your creations and share them with your friends. Be a professional clay-free potter within minutes with Let’s Create! Pottery Lite app on your Android device.

You can also create an Android version of your family and friends, too. Introducing the Androidify app.

This app allows you to transform the green Bug Droid into an Android version of your friends. Add some nice looking hair, stretch its legs, add cool eyeglasses, put on some nice fitting clothes, until you have your very own Android. Let your creativity free and create your own Bug Droid.

After creating your friend’s Bug Droid, show it off on your social networking sites. You can also use it as a profile pic or as a picture for your contacts. Fill your phonebook with your nicely created Bug Droids of your friends. Try out the Androidify app and let the mass production of Bug Droids begin.

The Fresco Lite version only allows 2 layers, 2 filters, and 3 brushes. You will need to download the paid version for a price to unlock the app’s full capabilities.

Adobe Photoshop Touch

Tired of your dull and mediocre pictures? What should you do to add your touch of creativity and stye to your photos? Worry no more, Android users, for Adobe Photoshop Touch is here to help. With the use of your Android tablet, you can now cultivate your creativity by bringing more life to your pictures.

This app is designed to edit and enhance the quality of your photos. Using its built-in features, you can magically transform your photos right from your Android tablet. Seems like the Australian mobile carrier Telstra is beefing up its  LTE-phone catalog.

Right after bringing in the HTC Titan 4G Windows phone,  Telstra is now offering the HTC One XL up for pre-order on its website. The One XL is the LTE version of the  HTC One X, one of the best smartphone released this year, and some say (S3 fans, cover your ears), the absolute best.

Telstra is trying to make the launch of the One XL more enticing by offering a free pair of Beats Solo headphones. However, to snag the headphones, you will need to get the HTC One XL through the carrier’s Freedom Connect Plan for 24 months. The headphones are valued at $279, so this appears to be a very sweet deal, especially if you love listening to music through your smartphone.

For our friends down under interested in the HTC One XL, be aware that this device features a S4 dual-core 1.5GHz processor (not Tegra 3 because this is an LTE device), a 8MP camera with rapid-fire continuous shooting, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, a beautiful 4.7-inch HD display, 32GB internal memory, Bluetooth 4.0, a 1800 mAh battery, and of course 4G network connectivity. To wrap up, Telstra wants you to know that you must place your pre-order before midnight of June 4, 2012. But if I were you, I wouldn’t wait until June, since Telstra might pull off the pre-order as soon as stocks are depleted.Telstra is scheduled to ship pre-orders starting June 1. Let us know how you like your new phone!
