Halfbrick teasing the cartoon-inspired Colossatron game release
Jul 19th 2013, 14:33, by Robert Nelson

Halfbrick is the developer behind the popular Fruit Ninja game. They also have another successful game called Jetpack Joyride. While both of these titles have been available for sometime and both have been available for multiple platforms — it looks like Halfbrick has begun teasing their next release. The game is called Colossatron: Massive World Threat.

Anyway, Halfbrick Studios has announced the game and even gone as far as offering a trailer video and newly created Facebook page to give people a bit of detail about what the game will bring. As some may pick up on from the trailer, Colossatron is a bit cartoon-like. It seems that was done by design.

The Halfbrick announcement included details about how Colossatron was done in a “unique style reminiscent of the craziest anime and cartoons of the 80s.” As far as the game itself, this is said to be the story about the “biggest and most powerful being to ever wage war against mankind.”

Users playing will have to take control of the Colossatron. And for those wondering what a Colossatron is — Halfbrick describes it as being a gargantuan robotic snake that crash-lands on Earth with a goal to cause chaos. While the goal is to take control over the snake, the players success will be measured by how much damage has been caused — in terms of a dollar amount.

With that, we have the trailer and we have the above image showing the Colossatron but what we don’t have are the specifics in terms of when. So far Halfbrick has said more details will be available in the “coming weeks.” In addition to when, we also cannot help but wonder about platform support. Halfbrick has released games for Android in the past, however they have yet to say which platforms would be getting Colossatron first.

Rovio Account game-syncing arrives for all Android users
Jul 19th 2013, 13:59, by Robert Nelson

Rovio originally announced the accounts setup back in May. This was dubbed the Rovio Account and just as the name would imply, this would let users create accounts. The more important aspect is how that account can then be used to sync your game data across multiple devices. Basically, this meant you would be able to switch from one device to another and pick up in the same spot where you left off.

Anyway, Rovio announced and began rolling out support for the Account in May, however that rollout process was slow and gradual. The good news has arrived this morning and the Rovio Account option is now available for all Android users on a global basis. Bottom line, regardless of location users can now move forward and create their personal account.

While the Account option is now available for all, there is another catch we should mention. The game support is still somewhat limited. For now Rovio has this setup available for the original Angry Birds release and for The Croods. Additional game support is coming, however a timeline has yet to be given.

Rovio has simply said the “next step is for us to roll this out onto other Angry Birds and non Angry Birds titles, so that’s exactly what we’re going to do.” Aside from a timeline, there is also the question of which games will get priority when the Account support continues. There are plenty of titles available including numerous Angry Birds spinoffs.

Of course, we cannot help but hope that this is all set and in place by the time Angry Birds Star Wars II arrives in September. It would also be nice to see Rovio Account support come to the games released under the Stars program — such as the recent Tiny Thief.

Moto X leak tips an August 26 release with US Cellular
Jul 19th 2013, 13:25, by Robert Nelson

Motorola was originally expected to have a bit more to say about the Moto X earlier in the month. That was quickly put to the side when Motorola came forward with a flat out denial. And well, as that date has since passed we know it was not to happen. But despite that rumored date not working out as expected, the date related rumors are continuing to come. Enter this latest which has pegged the US Cellular release date as August 26th.

Of course, like the others this one should be considered rumor until we hear something official from either US Cellular or Motorola. In the meantime though, this August 26th date has come by way of an image that was posted on the Moto X forums over at Android Central. In addition to the August 26th date, there is further speculation about how the carrier may be rolling the handset out in waves.

That image (sitting below) points toward the August 26th date, but goes on to include a mention of wave 1, 2 and 3. While this is purely speculation, the different waves could be the difference between online and retail availability. Breaking that down further and it could also be the difference between US Cellular locations with and without LTE.

After all, the Moto X is expected to have LTE and we have seen carriers stage device rollouts based on coverage in the past. Maybe say, wave 1 is online availability, wave 2 is retail availability where LTE is live and wave 3 brings the handset available to all US Cellular customers. But again, that is nothing more than a bit of speculation based on previous patterns.

Otherwise, much of the details about the handset remain rumor at this point. Motorola has confirmed the existence of the phone and even gone as far as talking about how it can be customized and how it will be assembled in the US. Some of the spec rumors have talked about a Clear Pixel camera and dual-core 1.7GHz processor along with an HD display that is either 4.3 or 4.7-inches in size.
