Looks like Kobo is developing a Tegra 4 based 10 inch tablet

kobo_logoIt seems that Kobo has big plans for the future and although Barnes and Noble, one of its main competitors, has decided to pull out of the custom Android tablet / eBook reader market, the Toronto based eBook company is developing a new 10 inch Android tablet as it tries to take on Amazon.

Alongside its current range of eReaders with e-Ink displays, Kobo currently has a quite nice 7 inch tablet based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The dual-core Kobo Arc is reasonably priced and comes with a crisp 1280 x 800 IPS display. But Kobo isn’t stopping there, according to benchmark data (which has now disappeared) caught by GFXBench, Kobo is working on the Kobo 10 HD which will be based on Android 4.2.2 and feature a 2560 x 1504 display. The GL data shows that the GPU comes from NVIDIA and the CPU is clocked at 1810MHz. These two nuggets point to a Tegra 4 powered device.

The current Kobo Arc comes in 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB models and includes a front facing camera and 1GB of RAM. For 2013/2014 that means you can expect the Arc 10 HD to have the same storage options but probably include a rear facing camera and 2GB of RAM.

Personally I almost bought a Kobo Arc this summer but found a cheaper device on special offer at the last minute, however the Kobo Arc was certainly an attractive option. The thought of a Kobo Arc 10 HD is very tempting, I hope Kobo manage to deliver the goods at a good price.

What about you, are you a Kobo fan? Does the Kobo Arc 10 HD sound tempting?
