As it usually happens when Google announces a new version of Android, even a relatively minor one like 4.3, all eyes are turned on manufacturers for announcements regarding the rollout of the respective update.

For Android 4.3, the first OEM to step forward is Sony, which announced in a blog post that is working with Google and Qualcomm to prepare the update for several recent devices:

  • Xperia Z
  • Xperia ZL
  • Xperia ZR
  • Xperia Tablet Z
  • Xperia SP
  • Xperia Z Ultra

These all devices released in the recent months powered by Qualcomm processors (just like the new Nexus 7). In addition to the list above, Sony also said that it plans to skip the Android 4.2 update for some devices, and bring them directly to the latest Android 4.3 version. It's not known yet which devices will get this treatment.

Also, no word yet on the timeline of the Android 4.3 update for Sony devices, but the company promised that more information would be coming as soon as possible.

Two other major manufacturers, Samsung and HTC, were unfortunately less forthcoming about their Android 4.3 update plans. Both companies produce Google Play Edition phones (our reviews: HTC One GPe and Galaxy S4 GPe), which Google said yesterday will be updated "soon".

As for regular devices, Samsung told Tech Radar that it "will confirm upgrade plans to Android 4.3 to selected Galaxy devices in the coming months", while HTC claimed to be currently "reviewing Android 4.3 to see how this update fits into our plans". In non-PR speak, neither company has info to share at this moment.

One manufacturer known for speedy Android updates is Asus, the maker of both generations of the Nexus 7. To our knowledge, the Taiwanese company hasn't revealed anything yet, though we do expect an announcement in the coming weeks.
