A new report from the Wall Street Journal seems to confirm that the LG August 7 media event taking place in New York City will star the LG (Optimus) G2.

We were already expecting the handset to be unveiled during the event, as LG hasn't been the most careful company when it comes to leaks and not-so-subtle hints.

But seeing the WSJ throw its weight behind the rumor makes it almost official. The publication wrote:

LG's invitation to the Aug. 7 event shows a picture of a black satin box with a phone-shaped indentation and the text "Great 2 Have You," possibly a play on the name of the new Optimus G model. People familiar with the matter said the phone will likely be called Optimus G 2.

Furthermore, "one person familiar with the matter" has apparently revealed that the handset will indeed pack a 5.2-inch display as it was previously rumored.

The WSJ was not able to confirm whether that 5.2-inch display will be the 2.2mm thin 5.2-inch display unveiled by LG Display not too long ago – although that's a more than logical assumption to make.

The publication did not mention other specs, nor did it present a photo of the device, but there are a wide variety of LG G2-related leaks out there, which reveal alleged hardware details as well as images of the upcoming flagship smartphone.
