BBM for Android screenshots leak as beta group expands
Aug 1st 2013, 13:49, by Robert Nelson

We have yet to see anything further from BlackBerry in terms of the BBM for Android release. Officially speaking BBM for Android is expected to arrive sometime before the end of the summer. As we can tell from the calendar, that means the app may not be arriving in the Play Store until as late as September 21st. But with that in mind, it does appear as if the beta test group has recently been opened up a bit wider.

BlackBerry Beta Zone members have recently begun sharing details about a “cross-platform BBM Beta” invitation. Basically, select Beta Zone members are being invited to use BBM for Android. Based on details coming from the announcement, BBM will run on Android devices with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.x.x) or later.

Sadly though, this same invite still mentions the public release as being later in the summer. Specifically, the invite mentions how these Beta Zone members will be able to test BBM on an Android device “before it gets released worldwide later this summer.” Basically that means we are still looking at sometime before September 21st.

We have yet to see an apk leak, however we are beginning to see some screenshots surface. The folks at BlackBerryOS.com have recently shared a few and those can be seen in the gallery below. The screenshots reveal a bit about the functionality including how users will have access to chats, contacts and groups. From what we can see it looks like a clean and well set-up app, but as always some hands-on time may tell another story.

In the meantime, we are hoping to see a bit more leak and of course, see a bit more about the release from the folks at BlackBerry. Otherwise, those with an Android device and a BlackBerry Beta Zone account may want to make sure their profile is up to date by heading to the Core Settings portion under My Profile.

Motorola Connect and Migrate apps arrive ahead of Moto X unveil
Aug 1st 2013, 13:24, by Robert Nelson

We know that today will be the day Motorola officially unveils the Moto X smartphone. We are expecting plenty of details about the handset itself, but it appears as if Motorola also had some other plans in mind. These others seems to have arrived a bit ahead of the handset announcement and have landed in the Chrome Web Store and the Google Play Store as the Motorola Connect and Motorola Migrate apps.

The Motorola Connect app is available by way of the Chrome Web Store where it is shown to have support for the Moto X as well as the DROID ULTRA, MAXX and MINI smartphones that were recently announced for Verizon Wireless. The Connect app is currently sitting at version 1.0 and it will allow users to send and receive text messages from their computer. Aside from the text message support, you can also use Connect to see who is calling before even reaching for your handset.

While the Connect app is focused on use, the Migrate app is focused on getting started. The Migrate app will work with devices running Android 2.2 Froyo or later and will transfer some of your content from your old smartphone. The app will be able to move your images and videos as well as the contacts stored on your SIM card, your call history and your text message history. Or as Motorola seems to be touting, Migrate will allow you to transfer this data “in just a few steps, wirelessly.”

So far it looks like a few Moto X items have been revealed this morning. Needless to say, we suspect Motorola may have a bit more to say about both Connect and Migrate during the event which will kick off a bit later today. And remember, we will be live on-site to bring you the latest official news as it it announced. We can only hope that Motorola unveils enough to put an end to these Moto X related rumors and leaks. By that we are looking not only for details on the handset itself, but also in terms of carriers, release dates and pricing.
