Verizon Moto X availability and pricing confirmed, set for online sales first
Aug 26th 2013, 20:23, by Robert Nelson

The Moto X launched with AT&T on August 23rd and shortly after that there was word about how the release with other carriers would happen “in days.” While we have yet to hear from every other carrier, we do have the release date and pricing details from Verizon. And true to the rumors, the Moto X will be available with Verizon Wireless as of August 29th.

The details were recently shared by way of the official @VZWnews Twitter account and they confirmed the price would be $199.99. The catch here, the initial August 29th release will be online only. An in-store availability date has yet to be set and at this time was said to be happening some time in the “coming weeks.”

This release will offer options to pick up the Moto X in black or white and with 16GB of internal storage. So far no word on a 32GB model and for now the Moto Maker customizations are still expected “later this year.” Verizon has yet to reveal the full retail price. They haven’t specifically mentioned the Edge pricing either, however looking at the other $199.99 handsets in the lineup and we see that price will be $25.22 per month (for 24 months).

Bottom line here, it looks like Verizon has now completed the big month of August. They have released the trio of new DROID branded handsets — including the ULTRA, MAXX and MINI and they have finally released the HTC One. End result here, if you had been waiting to see the details and prices for all these handsets it seems like now is the time to decide which to purchase.

We have a full review for the DROID ULTRA as well as the Moto X and the HTC One. Otherwise, it looks like the only hold back now would be for those who must have either a 32GB or a Moto Maker customized Moto X. And for those two, no set date or solid timeframe at the moment.

LG G Pad 8.3 tablet leaks ahead of IFA unveil
Aug 26th 2013, 19:42, by Cory Gunther

Following a successful unveiling of the LG G2 smartphone, the company is back this afternoon speeding up the hype train about their upcoming Android tablet. The LG G Pad has leaked a few times over the past few weeks, and this morning we’re getting tons of information. If the leaked image below is accurate their new tablet will look just like a larger smartphone.

gpad83

This week LG looks to turn the heat up on the hype, and have already released a video teaser promising a tablet that is “just right for you.” This follows some reports last week where an LG exec confirmed the G Pad was coming soon. So how soon? Well, early September at IFA of course.

At IFA in Berlin the folks from LG are likely to announce their first tablet since the G Slate back in the Honeycomb days of Android tablets infancy, and it has some pretty great sounding specs. Rumors are back and forth between which quad-core processor, a Snapdragon 600 or 800, but either way it will be quite powerful.

The reports all suggest an 8.3-inch 1920 x 1200 full HD display, Android 4.2 or 4.3 Jelly Bean, 2GB of RAM along with that quad-core processor, and more. If the image above is accurate it will look very similar to their recent smartphone, the LG G2, and have extremely thin bezels. We’re taking the image and rumors with a pretty large dose of salt, but it sure is interesting.

As always, we’ll be live next week in Germany for IFA with all the details, pictures, and video of the new LG G Pad 8.3 slate.

Rovio begins the Angry Birds Star Wars II character introductions
Aug 26th 2013, 19:31, by Robert Nelson

Rovio dropped a few Angry Birds Star Wars II teasers late last week and those came along with the promise of some character introductions. The game is set for release on September 19th and Rovio has said it will include bird and pig versions of over 30 characters from the Star Wars universe. Rovio also promised that character introductions would begin today.

With that in mind, it looks like the Rovio YouTube account has four new videos. These are all on the short side, just 30 seconds each and are offering an introduction for Droideka, TIE Fighter Pilot, Zam Wesell and Emperor Palpatine. The first of the videos, the introduction for Droideka is sitting below.

We have also recently learned that Rovio would be releasing Angry Birds Star Wars II into the Google Play Store as well as the Amazon Appstore. The game will be priced at $0.99 and there will also be a second free version available for those who don’t mind some in-game advertisements. That said, the second of the introductions was for TIE Fighter Pilot and that can be seen just below.

This latest version of Angry Birds Star Wars is also brining a unique take in that you will be able to play as the other side. Rovio has said the “Join The Pork Side” bit is all about how you will be able to play as the piggies — which is a first for any of the games in the Angry Birds series. And next up is the introduction for Zam Wesell.

Anyway, with 30 total character introductions coming and only four released it looks like we have plenty more to watch for in the coming weeks. And aside from being able to play as one of the piggies, the other connection with this release comes with the TELEPODS tie-in. This will bring a real-world (toy) aspect to the game. The final introduction for this round is for Emperor Palpatine and that is sitting below.

Nexus 7 LTE hits Japan mid September, US release date incoming
Aug 26th 2013, 18:55, by Cory Gunther

When Google announced that their impressive new Nexus 7 tablet would come in a 4G LTE model with 32GB of storage for only $349 many were excited, and have been desperately waiting for a release date. Currently a WiFi only model is available, but now we’re hearing the LTE flavored slate will hit China in a few weeks, slated to arrive in mid September.

Today Google announced the LTE Nexus 7 would come to China, and they gave a mid September time frame according to the Blog of Mobile, a popular Chinese site. The 7-inch full HD slate is impressive, and all I want is a Verizon model to be in my hands already.

The tablet has been available all month long, but since being announced back at the tail end of July when Google claimed an LTE version would be “coming soon” we haven’t heard a word regarding the LTE flavor. If Google’s planning to release a LTE-equipped model in China in mid September, we should be hearing a US release date any day now.

Earlier this month a 32GB 4G LTE Nexus 7 was spotted in China, where one lucky user claimed he bought the WiFi and received an LTE edition, but for now that remains a mystery. All we know is it has cleared the FCC, has been spotted in China, and now has a release date. Hopefully that AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon (all in one device) Nexus hits the US soon.

We’ll update the minute we learn anything official from Google. Who’s waiting for the LTE model before buying? I know I am.

Sony Xperia i1 Honami teased with the G Lens
Aug 26th 2013, 18:45, by Robert Nelson

Sony had kicked off the #bestofSony campaign and so far they have been giving sneak peak looks at the device believed to be the Honami. Or as it has since become, the Sony Xperia i1. An announcement is expected to take place at an event just prior to IFA and this most recent image teaser has brought the talk to one of the more popular points of the handset — the camera.

G-Teaser-Mon

In this case Sony has shared the image you see above with a question of “have we captured your attention yet.” This image matches up with earlier leaks, however there is one item missing from this official pic. That is the 1/2.3 and 20.7 MP references that were previously sitting under the G.

Of course, the lens and flash are both sitting in the same spots. This image also provides a little look at the (what appears to be a small) lip around the back of the handset. Basically, it looks like there is no question that the Honami (Xperia i1) will launch with the Sony G Lens.

Looking back and some of the earlier #bestofSony postings offered a look at the power button and also a bit about it being water-resistant. The nice part about the water image was that we were given a look at a fair amount of the phone. That pic showed the entire length of the top as well as the side. Coincidentally, the same side the power button sits on.

STILL_3_610px-540x258

Otherwise, the Sony event is scheduled for September 4th and the latest of the still unconfirmed specs suggest the handset will drop with a 5-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 3000 mAh battery and 20 megapixel rear-facing camera. The handset has also been spotted in a variety of colors to include black, white and purple.
