Sony teases Honami smartphone with G-series lens
Aug 26th 2013, 21:27, by Dustin Earley

Sony’s Honami is one of those devices that you know exists, but does so in a strange place between a million leaks and an official announcement. We’ve seen system dumps and leaked pictures, but Sony has yet to truly cement its existence. Adding to the Honami’s current predicament, Sony has released a second teaser image, this time showing off the device’s G lens-backed camera.

The first time Sony teased the Honami, it was with an image showing nothing more than a partial purple silhouette and what could possibly be a dedicated camera key. Today, Sony is showing off the backside of the Honami, or the camera itself to be more specific. The Honami has been leaked as having a 20MP camera with a G-series lens, and at least part of that has now been confirmed. We still aren’t positive it will come with a 20MP camera (who cares about megapixels anyway), but it will indeed have a G-branded lens.

Sony has long been using G lenses in a wide variety of their photography products, from DSLRs to point-and-shoot cameras. The Honami will be the first Sony smartphone to land the G name and is widely expected to be quite a camera phone. What appears to be unique about the Honami over similar photography-centric devices like the Nokia 1020 and Samsung Zoom is that Sony is still keeping the device slim and sleek. No giant bump on the back to make room for optics and what have you.

Sony, you’ve managed to gain our attention. Don’t disappoint us.

Verizon Moto X to be available August 29, $199 on-contract
Aug 26th 2013, 20:33, by Dustin Earley

Verizon has just taken to Twitter to announce the final word on availability of the standard non-Moto Maker version of Motorola Moto X for Big Red. According to Verizon, the Moto X will finally be available one week after the AT&T version was released, August 29.

For a close-enough-to-stock Android experience with a heaping helping of Moto-Googo-rola’s own special always on voice assistance features, you’re looking at a full $199, with a two year contract. This is, to reiterate, for the base white or black “woven” colorway. The customized Moto X for Verizon will still be available later this year. In other words, if you can wait, you may want to wait.

Now that the initial sticker shock of seeing a “mid-range” phone come in at $199 on-contract has worn off, nearly anyone who has used the Moto X will recommend it as one of the best Android phones money can buy at the moment. Going up against the super spec’d Galaxy S4 and HTC One was no easy task, but Motorola seems to be doing a fine job of it.

Just three more days until Verizon customers can finally pick the device up. If I was on Verizon, I know what I’d be getting.

HTC releases HTC One X, One X+ Android 4.2, Sense 5 update in the UK
Aug 26th 2013, 19:42, by Nick Gray

At long last, the HTC One X and One X+ in the UK have started to receive the latest Android 4.2.2 update from HTC. The update, which started rolling out across Europe and Asia a few weeks back, includes the latest version of HTC Sense 5 and dozens of new features that should make HTC One X and One X+owners quite happy.

The new 2.18.401.2 software build weighs in at 406 MB and delivers HTC’s updated UI with Blinkfeed, Video Highlights, a half dozen new stock apps, lock screen widgets, home button customization (long press for menu, swipe up to launch Google Now), quick settings in the notification shade, advanced notifications and much more. For now it looks like the Android 4.2 update for the HTC One X and One X+ is only available for unlocked devices, but we’re assuming carrier branded versions of the phone will start to receive the update in the coming days.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed the update on your phone, let us know what new Android 4.2 and Sense 5 features you enjoy the most.

Moto X Developer Edition shown off, T-Mobile support page goes live
Aug 26th 2013, 19:31, by Dima Aryeh

Motorola’s Moto X, like all Android phones, is at the mercy of the carriers. Many phones have been locked down by the higher powers. The current trend is to release special devices with unlocked bootloaders, and Motorola took the chance to reveal the developer edition of the Moto X.

The device will have a unique look to it (outside of Moto Maker), with a black front and a white back, along with the words “DEVELOPER EDITION” engraved at the bottom in a particularly attractive way. It’ll also come with 32GB of memory and the all-important unlockable bootloader, for all your hacking needs. Unfortunately, Motorola hasn’t announced the price. Hopefully it won’t be too extravagant.

T-Mobile also has some Moto X news; the company has launched a support page for the device. The phone itself has not yet launched on the carrier, so seeing the support page go live is a good sign that the device will launch very soon.

John Legere, T-Mobile CEO, teased the Moto X on his Twitter page. He stated that the device will be available on T-Mobile in September, though it’s unknown whether it’ll be sold with plans or directly from Motorola. Hopefully they’ll start selling them just like every other carrier. We’re excited to see what Motorola has to offer beyond what they’ve already released.
