Owners of the Sony Xperia S, Xperia SL and Xperia Acro S have a little something to look forward to: a new Android 4.1 firmware update is rolling out now! To be fair, owners of these three handsets already have Android 4.1, so what's so special here? The new update fixes quite a few bugs and promises overall improved performance.
Some of the highlights for this update include improvements that should extend battery life, smoothed out 1080p video recording and better 2G network stability.
Here's the full change-log of what to expect when the upgrade makes its way to your handset:
- Camera
- addressed an abnormality in the white balance
- improved the "Quick Launch" button functionality
- smoothed out (1080p) video recording, minimizing lag
- Apps and services
- streamlined Exchange Active Sync, particularly when running an encrypted set-up
- boosted connection stability for 2G network data
- ensured preferences on 3rd party apps remain after reboot – not a common problem, but we understand it can be a frustrating one!
- Battery
- economised power consumption, and heat dispersion for longer life
- corrected juice level notifications, especially when running low
- Hardware and UI
- introduced a home key long-press to launch Google Now, and a double-press to launch Recent Apps
- made sure the volume "up" button is fully responsive
While nothing here is super-exciting or lifechanging, it's still a more than welcome update. Sure, an upgrade to Android 4.2 or newer would have be nice, but beggars can't be choosers.
