Gmail app update opens door to potential inbox advertising
Sep 30th 2013, 14:50, by Scott Webster

The recently announced update to the official Gmail application for Android may soon allow for inbox advertisement. After digging through the APK code of the new mail client, AndroidPolice spotted references to potential advertisements within the inbox. Presumably, this will be in line with the current desktop setup where we only see them served within the promotions tab of the inbox.

We’re pretty cool with this as long as it doesn’t happen every single time we open the app; the ads should also be targeted to the end user. I don’t really mind the stuff that I get today when using the computer and expect that the mobile version would be quite the same experience. One or two every once in awhile isn’t the worst thing ever.  And, really, just use another email client if you’re that sore over the matter.
