New LG Nexus render

We were treated with a bevy of leaks about the new Nexus smartphone over the past couple of weeks, enough to give us a very good idea of what's coming from Google and LG this October.

Thanks to various FCC documents, we know some of the key specifications of the upcoming Nexus (which some people just call the Nexus 5), including processor, battery, and display size. But there's also some photographic evidence that helps us visualize what the new LG Nexus will look like once it becomes official.

Using images from last week's FCC filing and the now infamous KitKat statue video, Reddit user Vovicon put together a great "Nexus 5" render that we reported on a few days ago.

Now Vovicon updated his initial work to match the details revealed by the FCC leak from yesterday, such as the precise placement of the camera and headphone jack and the appearance of the front. The image at the top of this post is the updated render, and, we have to say, it looks very impressive.

Vovicon and other commenters have speculated that the conspicuous absence of the earpiece in the FCC shots is not the result of the low quality of the photo, and that the device could actually use a bone induction speaker, similar to Kyocera's Smart Sonic Receiver technology. The render reflects that theory. Another possibility is that LG has shrunken the earpiece or otherwise masked it to the point it's almost invisible.

The image above is an experiment that Ron Amadeo of Ars Technica put together to verify if the apparent absence of the earpiece is caused by the bad image taking. His conclusion – the earpiece should be visible, but it’s not.

What do you think of this render? Would you like a Nexus phone that looks like it?
