'Agent' app promises to offer a more effective, useful personal assistant

Agent

There’s a new app on the Play Store that offers yet another personal assistant, adding to the list of many programs promising to be the killers of both Google Now and Siri. Although no 3rd party app has done it yet (and probably won’t anytime soon), the developer behind ‘Agent’ says that there are certainly some practical, redeeming features in his new app that most personal assistants do not yet offer.

For instance, Agent will put your phone into a power saving mode when you have low battery, it will silence your phone during meetings, remember where you’ve parked, auto-respond when you’re driving, and allow only urgent calls when you’re sleeping.

While you’re driving, it will also read text messages aloud. It senses when your device is traveling faster than 25mph or connected to a recognized Bluetooth device. It isn’t clear how it functions when you are a passenger in a car, or on a form of public transportation, like a bus or train. You don’t want your messages read aloud on there, of course.

The app features different modules which take care of different functions: Drive Agent, Battery Agent, Parking Agent, Meeting Agent, and Sleeping Agent.

Meeting Agent will sync with your calendar and can silence your phone when you’re in a meeting. Pretty neat, in case you forget to turn your device off. However, it could serve as a problem if you miss an important call or don’t want your phone to be silenced during a particular meeting. If you forget to constantly check on your presets, issues could arise.

It does seem like a pretty useful app overall— try it out for yourselves and let us know what you think. Hit the break for a gallery of screenshots and a link to the app in the Play Store.
