ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T US availability coming soon
Oct 25th 2013, 14:52, by Robert Nelson

The ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T should soon be available for purchase in the US market. In fact, it looks like some pre-orders have already begun showing up. ASUS has yet to fully detail the US availability, however similar to previous model tablets, this one should hit a variety of retailers. For now though, the tablet has been spotted with ExcaliberPC.

The listings do not yet have an estimated shipping date, however they have been priced. The Transformer Pad TF701T sits at $449 for the tablet only and at $599 for a tablet and keyboard combo package. This is for the 32GB model and those grabbing the tablet only option, you can always grab a keyboard later. ExcaliberPC has the keyboard priced at $149.

Pricing aside, the specs for this one begin with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and include a 10.1-inch display at 2560 x 1600 along with a quad-core 1.9GHz Tegra 4 processor. Users can also expect to find 2GB of RAM, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0+EDR as well as a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera and 5 megapixel rear-facing camera.

The tablet also has Miracast support along with the SonicMaster technology we often see on ASUS products. Remaining goodies include microHDMI, 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot with sport for cards up to 128GB in size. As for the keyboard, that also throws in an additional USB 3.0 port and SD card reader — not to mention, some additional battery life.

ASUS touts the tablet as having 13 hours worth of battery and the keyboard dock is said to add in an additional 4 hours. All said and done, the Transformer Pad TF701T appears to be a tablet with a solid set of specs. And otherwise, there is also a 64GB model, however that has yet to be priced.

Verizon Messages update brings Glympse integration
Oct 25th 2013, 14:06, by Robert Nelson

The Verizon Messages app has been around for quite some time now, and as of today it looks like a new feature will be arriving. The app will soon have Glympse integration. Big Red has dubbed this as being a “major upgrade” but the simple fact is, users will be able to easily share their location in real time. Or more the to point, Verizon Messages users will be able to share their location without the need to open a second app.

For those unfamiliar with Verizon Messages, or Glympse — both can be found in the Play Store and both are available for free. The Messages app is for Verizon customers and means they are able to send and receive messages from a smartphone or tablet. In addition, they can also send and receive from the web. The key here, these messages are all shown as being sent from your Verizon Wireless phone number.

Glympse is an app that we have looked at before. In fact, back in July we saw some the service get integrated with Evernote. The basic here is that Glympse will allow you to share your current location with others. You can share over email or text message as well as on several social sites. The good part here, along with the real-time sharing of your location, each Glympse can be set to expire. Basically, you can set a Glympse to give someone a look at where you are, where you are traveling and also when you are expected to arrive.

Bottom line here, you can now share a Glympse directly from the Verizon Messages app. Otherwise, Verizon has also said the Messages app is getting the ability to customize photos with collages, captions and sketches and also send customized postcards as well as audio clips. The Verizon Messages app is available by way of the Google Play Store.

Nexus 5 leak tips October 31 Play Store availability
Oct 25th 2013, 13:20, by Robert Nelson

Coming in addition to the recent chatter about Android 4.4 Kit Kat arriving on October 25, it looks like the Nexus 5 may be arriving in the Play Store at the end of October. We have yet to see the mass of press invites go out to the media, however it is starting to look like Kit Kat and the Nexus 5 are still going to arrive in October as had been rumored. And interestingly enough, it is looking like they are both going to arrive on different days.

Of course, the important part to remember here is this is all firmly in the rumor category at the moment. With that reminder out of the way, this latest Nexus 5 leak comes by way of the folks at MobileSyrup. There isn’t much in terms of detail, but they are reporting based on an unnamed tipster. According to what was said, they have “been tipped that Google will make the Nexus 5 available via Google Play on Thursday, October 31st.”

Aside from the Halloween Play Store availability, this same tipster also mentioned the Canadian availability would begin a week later, on either November 7th or 8th. And sticking with the rumors pointing towards an end of October availability, the folks at Spigen have updated some case listings.

As you will see from the image sitting below, Spigen has three case options for the Nexus 5 listed. And the key here, all are showing an available to ship timeframe of “end of October.” Needless to say, this is nothing more than a product listing for an online store. Or in other words, those three words could be easily and quickly updated should the need arise.

Otherwise, touching on the launch of Kit Kat and the details we had seen were coming by way of the GO Launcher team. They are claiming to have received an invitation from Google about the launch of the next version of Android. The invitation tipped this as being on Friday October 25th, but that could vary depending on the timezone. GO Launcher is based out of China.

Anyway, we would have expected to already have seen some official invitations hit the mass media if Google was indeed planning something for October, but we suppose stranger things have happened. Not to mention, with the whole Kit Kat candy connection here, an October (Halloween) timeframe does seem to make sense.
