LG G Flex specs and performance appear in AnTuTu benchmark
Oct 25th 2013, 07:05, by Juan Carlos Torres

Finally some news about the LG G Flex that isn’t just about how curved the smartphone is. AnTuTu has graciously provided some data that shows us the device will be more than just something pretty, or weird depending on your taste, to look at.

It’s hard to talk about the LG G Flex without also mentioning the Samsung Galaxy Round simply by virtue of being the first to unveil a consumer device in that category. And just as Samsung based its own curved smartphone on its most recent Galaxy Note 3 phablet, LG is also making a similar move and basing the G Flex on its LG G2 flagship. Well, almost.

Based on AnTuTu’s findings, the LG G Flex does have a lot of similarities with the G2. It sports the same quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with an Adreno 330 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. Internal storage is set to 32 GB, twice that of the G2. It also has a 13 megapixel rear camera. The biggest difference between the two, however, is that, while the G2 has a 5.2-inch 1080p screen, the G Flex will have a larger 6.0-inch screen but a lower resolution of 1280×720 pixels, giving it a lower 244 ppi pixel density than that of the G2.

Fortunately, aside from a slightly lower display, the LG G Flex’s performance will still be impressive, with AnTuTu’s benchmark tests giving it a score of 33,336. Someone who wants the novelty of a strange new smartphone shape and the power a somewhat high-end smartphone might want to keep an eye on the LG G Flex when it is unveiled in November.

Ubisoft Rayman Fiesta Run dashing to Android on November 7
Oct 25th 2013, 06:32, by Juan Carlos Torres

Ubisoft has two games planned for Android before the year ends and one of them has yet to land in players’ hands. But fans of the wacky limbless character need not fret as Rayman Fiesta Run will soon be coming to Android early November.

Last month, we talked about Ubisoft’s Fall catalog for Android, comprised of a sequel to the hit side-scrolling Rayman running games, as well as a new title coming to Android also from the same Rayman universe. The insane antics of the obviously deranged lapines have finally crashed into Google Play Store early this week in the new Rabbids Bang Bang game.

All that’s left now, then, is to wait for Rayman’s latest crazy adventure that will take our protagonist across wildly colorful maps, giant-sized cookies, and, of course, monsters. Rayman Fiesta Run is scheduled to hit Google Play Store on November 7. This sequel to the popular Rayman Jungle Run, however, was not made by the same developer team but hopefully won’t fail to also impress. Ubisoft has released a developer diary video to give gamers a sneak peek at what’s in store for them.

Rayman Fiesta Run is expected to carry a price tag of $2.99 at launch. Rabbids Big Bang, on the other hand, costs $0.99 and can already be bought from Google Play Store via the link below.

BBM for Android updated, BlackBerry distances itself from fake reviews
Oct 25th 2013, 05:51, by Juan Carlos Torres

It’s barely been a week since its launch, but the BBM app for Android is already seeing its first update. Looking on the bright side of things, this could be taken as a sign of BlackBerry‘s commitment and speed to address issues on a platform that is not its own.

After several weeks of delays, the Canadian company finally launched its BBM app for Android and iOS last Monday. The update that was released today mentions bug fixes and performance enhancements, but also makes a vague reference to adding support for more Android devices, which we could always take as a good thing. While there have been almost no or very little complaints about the performance or user experience of the app itself, the BBM app still didn’t escape unscathed from controversy.

BlackBerry was quick to point out the rapid rise in popularity and positive reception of the app, which now has 5 to 10 million downloads and almost 185,000 reviews on Google Play Store. However, closer inspection has cast a shadow of doubt on those figures. A great number of comments use the exact same words, and even the exact same grammatical errors, leading some to suspect the involvement of some sinister marketing entity.

That’s not to say that there are no valid reviews for the app and BlackBerry was quick to show its disapproval of such tactics to artificially inflate the app’s popularity, claiming that it played no hand in the matter. It is somewhat unthinkable that BlackBerry would knowingly resort to such naive and painfully conspicuous means, but the question now is what steps the company will take to save BBM’s image from getting tarnished even further.

Android 4.4 KitKat to launch October 25 says GO Launcher [UPDATE]
Oct 25th 2013, 05:25, by Juan Carlos Torres

A good number of dates have already come and gone but Android 4.4 is still nowhere to be seen. This latest number, however, may yet prove to be closer to the truth as it is reported to come from Google itself, at least according to the GO Launcher team.

Like any other upcoming product release, Google’s latest Android iteration is surrounded by rumors, leaks, speculation, anticipation, as well as frustration. We’ve had a long series of supposed launch dates, almost all of which have not come to pass. With just a week left before the expected launch month is over, which of course is also a rumor, all that’s left is the October 28th date that was also dropped last week.

It seems though that Google may yet release Android 4.4 before this week is over. On its Facebook page, the makers of the popular home screen launcher GO Launcher claims to have received a special invitation coming from Google itself for the launch of the next Android version. That invitation puts the launch this Friday, October 25. They don’t mention anything about the Nexus 5, though.

[UPDATE] The date might actually also be Saturday, October 26 depending on the timezone of reference. GO Launcher’s base of operations is in China.

Many of you might already be quite tired of the launch date rumors and might decide to just let it happen when it happens. In the meantime, you could brush up on the features we’re expecting Android 4.4 KitKat to have via our timeline links below.
