Google has acquired French developer FlexyCore for $23.1 million in an effort to further optimize the Android platform. FlexyCore’s offerings, such as DroidBooster, are aimed at improving performance on devices and can be used by carriers, manufacturers, and app developers. According to the French publication L'Expansion, the acquisition talks began over a year ago for the five-year-old company and FlexyCore is already integrated into the Android team.
The FlexyCore team has strong expertise in building software to optimize Android device performance, and we think they'd be a great fit with our team.
It doesn’t take much to figure out the overall goal is to further tweak Android to make it run smoother and faster. Android 4.4 KitKat is is expected to “make an amazing Android experience available for everybody”, leading many to interpret this as optimized to run on lesser hardware. We’re warm to the idea of having a better experience on entry-level hardware, how about you? Perhaps Project Butter is just getting started and the next generation of Android builds get even smoother.
