Mad Catz has already directly stated they were planning on jumping into the Android console market, they just didn’t give any details on exactly what that console was going to be. Today, they’ve revealed everything you’ve wanted to know about M.O.J.O. including specs, pricing, and a release date.
Under the hood, this thing packs a Tegra 4 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory and a slot for microSD cards up to 128 GB, a full HDMI output, and two USB ports, one of which is a USB 3.0 port. It’s running Android 4.2.2 and comes preloaded with NVIDIA’s Tegra Zone, as well as Google Play. No need to rebuy all of your games again! No word on if it’ll be completely stock Android, but it’s pretty likely we’ll see some type of custom launcher to work with the controller that’s boxed in with the console. Fortunately, the controller looks very well designed, although considering Mad Catz is a company that makes aftermarket controllers and accessories, that really shouldn’t surprise anyone. It’ll be available December 10th for $249, which is a decent date and price to set this thing up to be a hot holiday item.
In that same price range, it’s competing with the relatively flawed $199 OUYA console and the $299 NVIDIA Shield. Personally, I think the beefier specs and better controller make it worth the extra 50 bucks over the OUYA, but it still doesn’t really have an answer for all the touch-screen games like the Shield does.
