Chromebook 11

Although Chromebooks haven’t taken off quite as much as Google would have liked them too, they still certainly offer a low-cost alternative to a high-end notebook.

Today, HP announced the Chromebook 11, which will feature an IPS-display and gorgeous design, all for $279.

The notebook will be the first Chromebook with an IPS display, and will also have the Chromebook Pixel’s multicolored light-bar on the lid. It will come in either white or black plastic, with an accent color of either blue, red, yellow, or green.

The internals don’t make for anything insane, but will provide a great experience on the lightweight Chrome OS. The Chromebook 11 comes with a Samsung Exynos 5250 ARM SoC, 2 GB RAM, an 11.6-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution, 16 GB SSD, dual-band 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, 2x USB 2.0 ports, and a 6-hour rated battery.

The Chromebook 11 will also support USB charging via a microUSSB port. The entire notebook weighs just 2.3 pounds.

And of course, no good Google product will come without some extras. 100GB of free Google Drive storage for two years is included, as well as a 60 day free trial of Google Play Music All Access, and 12 free GoGo Inflight Internet sessions.

The Chromebook 11 will be available on the Google Play store later today and in select retailers. A 4G variant of the notebook will also be on the market relatively soon, but a price for it is unknown.
