Blackberry creating enterprise cloud service; company shift to software? Oct 8th 2013, 18:45, by Dima Aryeh We all know that Blackberry isn’t doing well. It’s obvious to everyone, with the massive layoffs and the low sales and BB10 adoption rate. The company is simply no longer making money on its hardware, and it knows that. So it looks like Blackberry is moving towards software as a company. First came the Blackberry Messenger announcement. Previously a Blackberry exclusive service, the company announced that it will be coming to iOS and Android. And after a delay in release, we’re no longer sure when its coming. But the company has more tricks up its sleeve. Its next announcement is a cross platform enterprise service that allows employers to track devices, provide apps and manage them. This service will work with Blackberry, iOS and of course Android. And Blackberry claims it’s so simple, IT experience and servers are unnecessary to use it. It’ll also be so cheap, each user will cost “less than a cup of coffee” a month. For companies that allow employees to bring their own smartphones, a cross platform solution like this could be very useful. It’s genuinely a good idea, and if Blackberry pulls it off, it could bring the company back into relevancy. And thanks to François Beaufort, we find out many of these secrets before they reach a finished state. The newest feature found is Android screencast support in the browser. If you’re wondering what the use of this is, it’s for testing websites on mobile devices. Once your smartphone or tablet is hooked up to your computer and this feature is enabled, you’ll be able to see your device’s display on your computer in real time. And in real time, you can modify the website and immediately see how it changes on the device. It’s an incredibly useful feature for those who develop mobile sites that aren’t terrible.
