Now that Android 4.4 KitKat has been fully unveiled, we are already starting to see several major manufacturers coming forward with details regarding their upgrade schedules. While manufacturers like Sony and Samsung have been vague (at best) with their timeline, HTC and Motorola are among the first companies to get a bit more specific with their plans.
Joining the pack is Huawei, which has announced that their Ascend P6 handset will see the upgrade to KitKat in early January, making the leap all the way from its existing Android 4.2.2 build. Keep in mind that Huawei has yet to clarify if this January update schedule is only for Chinese users, or if it also applies to international handsets.
Considering the Ascend P6′s already solid hardware, the device should perform blazingly fast once KitKat comes onboard.
As a refresher, the Ascend P6 is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz Huawei K3V2 CPU with 2GB of RAM. Other specs include a 4.7-inch 1280×720 IPS display, 8/16GB RAM, microSD, a 5MP front cam and an 8MP rear cam. The handset is also well-known for its ultra-thin design, measuring only 6.8mm thick.
Even if the Ascend P6 isn't exactly an ultra-popular device, it's great to see a lesser-known Android manufacturer making a relatively quick jump over to the latest version of Android. Here’s to hoping that more manufacturers follow suit with a timely upgrade to Android’s latest.
