While Samsung and HTC have been busy updating their flagships (and even last year’s flagships) to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, Sony has been relatively silent on that front. The Sony Xperia Z1 has been languishing on Android 4.2.2. Jelly Bean since it was launched, and Sony’s previous flagships have also been stuck on Android 4.2 and 4.1.

Finally, Sony has decided to speak up via it’s official Twitter account SonyMobileNews. Sony claims that it will unveil its update plans for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and the newly released Android 4.4 KitKat, as well as some product news and more.

re. #Android @KitKat, we're excited – next week our news on: 4.3, 4.4; products & more… #SonyXperia

In the thread, SonyXperiaGB, the official Sony Twitter account for the United Kingdom, claimed that they couldn’t tell us which devices would be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat as it was “still under development”.

While Sony has never been the fastest OEM at updating its devices, it has a reasonably good track record of eventually updating its devices, and we hope to see Sony take a more aggressive role at updating its devices in the future.

We’ll be back with more news as soon as it becomes available.

Are you unimpressed with Sony’s update speeds or are the improvements in Android 4.3 and 4.4 negligible enough for you to not care?
