Last week, the @SamsungExynos Twitter account tweeted that they would announce a new Exynos Octa 5 this coming week, but details of the new SoC have already leaked. DDaily is reporting that it will be the Exynos 5420, which is only a slight bump from the Galaxy S 4′s Exynos 5410. It appears this SoC will sport a Mali GPU as opposed to a PowerVR. Unfortunately we don’t know which one for sure, but rumors indicate either the Mali-T604 or the Mali-T628. In looking at the Exynos 5410, the PowerVR SGX544MP3 was a tri-core. The Mali-T604 supports 4 cores, while the Mali-T628 supports 8 cores. Samsung used the T604 in their dual-core Exynos 5250, so it makes more sense that they would go with the T628.

That’s not all as we can expect to see an improved circuit design with shortened times for the SoC to switch between the A15 and A7 quad cores.

Finally, it’s believed that the Exynos 5420 will appear in the Galaxy Note III. I have no doubt about that, but I am still wondering if they will go with the Snapdragon 800 for certain regions like they did with the Galaxy S 4. I am hopeful the Exynos Octa will make it to stateside, but not counting on it.
