Nexus 7 2 leaks in full gallery of press photos
Jul 22nd 2013, 16:40, by Cory Gunther

There has been no shortage of leaks lately surrounding ASUS and Google’s new Nexus 7 tablet, but this morning we just received the best one yet. While they aren’t crisp live images, the folks from Android Police received an entire gallery of press images. Seeing every angle you’d like, including a fresh new wallpaper which hints at Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board. Since previous images were showing the latest 4.2.2 builds stock background.

These leaks reveal all sorts of information. Along with a stunning and beautiful design, sadly we have rather large bezels on the top and bottom to go along with the newly improved sleeker side bezels. The time reads 4:30 (hint hint) and we can now confirm the new Nexus 7 will indeed have a RGB LED notification light on bottom, just like the Nexus 4.

Google is set to unveil the new slate (and hopefully new OS update) on July 24th at an event in SF, and we’ll be there live of course with all the details. The top image shows us some awesome looking new stereo speakers on both the top, and bottom, although sadly they aren’t front facing like the HTC One. Hopefully that will be on the Nexus 7 3.

We know essentially all the details by now, so we’ll just have to wait for the official release. a 7-inch 1920 x 1080p HD display, quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, and both 16 and 32GB flavors for $229 and $269. We’re loving the design, but wish those top and bottom bezels weren’t so big. Oh, and we can clearly see a SIM slot in these images, so an LTE model is coming soon even if we haven’t seen any pricing or details leaked.

Check em out below. Who’s buying one later this week? It’s rumored to hit stores on July 30th.

Ubuntu Edge brings the promise of a dual-boot Linux and Android smartphone
Jul 22nd 2013, 16:35, by Robert Nelson

Canonical has officially launched an Indiegogo campaign for the Ubuntu Edge smartphone. This handset is still aways off in terms of delivery, however those curious can commit some money and get one of the first units to arrive in the hands of the public. Given the Ubuntu in the name it should go without saying that this handset is running Ubuntu Mobile OS. The interesting bit is that it is also running Android.

Simply put, the Ubuntu Edge will be a dual-booting smartphone. And to add another layer to that, the Edge will also be able to turn into a full Ubuntu desktop computer when docked. That last bit is the reason for Android. Canonical has said the Ubuntu desktop will be available from the Ubuntu for Android app. This will be available from day one. A future software update will also bring the ability to launch the Ubuntu desktop from Ubuntu Mobile.

The handset running Android should also help with any concerns about the lack of available apps. With that in mind, Canonical has said they have the Ubuntu SDK available and that will allow developers to create a single app that runs on the desktop, tablet and phone. Plus there is also the option to go the HTML5 route. The handset itself is sporting a 4.5-inch (1280 x 720) sapphire crystal display and powered by the “fastest multi-core CPU.” There is also 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space.

Other goodies include an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS, dual-LTE and more. Of course, those specs all come with fine print that reads “specifications are subject to change.” One other tidbit that may help ease the minds of those who are nervous buying into a new platform is the guarantee.

Canonical has said will “push out monthly Ubuntu software updates to add features and polish, and we guarantee to keep supporting the phone for three years.” Then comes the price, single units of the handset are available for as low as $600 — if you purchase by Tuesday July 23rd at 16:00 BST and otherwise, that same handset will set you back $830. These are expected to be delivered by May 2014.

SanDisk Connect devices arriving with wireless streaming and storage
Jul 22nd 2013, 15:52, by Robert Nelson

SanDisk has unveiled a pair of Connect branded devices that could help to free up some space on your smartphone or tablet. The devices are the Connect Wireless Flash Drive and the Connect Wireless Media Drive. These are both expected to arrive next month and they will both allow you to wireless stream and also transfer files to and from.

The first of these two is the flash drive. This one offers 16GB or 32GB of internal storage space. This flash drive also has a microSD card slot for added storage and WiFi connectivity. Of course, as one would expect with a flash drive — there is also the regular USB connectivity for use with a computer.

The Connect Wireless Flash Drive will allow users to stream a wide variety of files to include music and movies as well as images and documents. This drive will allow for up to four hours of continuous streaming from a single charge. As for price, those looking to make a purchase can expect to pay $49 or $59 for the 16GB or 32GB model respectively.

The next item, the Connect Wireless Media Drive has a squared Roku-like appearance. This one offers 32GB or 64GB of internal storage along with a full-sized SD memory card slot. The price of the media drive is $79 or $99 respectively, but given the price, those considering the 32GB model may be better served by the lower priced flash drive. Otherwise, 64GB with the additional storage coming from the memory card slot means a decent amount of available storage.

That amount of storage may come in handy given this drive allows up to eight mobile device connections at a time. Otherwise, both the flash drive and media drive will require the user(s) to have the SanDisk app installed on their device. The app will be available by way of the Play Store once the drives are available. Neither of these drives are shipping just yet, but both are available for pre-order with several retailers including Amazon and Newegg.

T-Mobile HTC One update brings LTE and reception improvements
Jul 22nd 2013, 15:16, by Robert Nelson

A software update has begun rolling out for the T-Mobile branded HTC One this morning. The update has only a few items listed under the improvements category however this looks like one that all users will want to grab as soon as possible. The update will leave your handset at Android 4.1.2, but it will bring the software version to 1.27.531.11.

Those few items include software stability and processor enhancements as well as LTE and reception improvements. T-Mobile has said the update measures in at 247MB in size and they have it available as an over-the-air update and also available direct from the HTC website.

As per standard with T-Mobile software updates they are recommending that you have at least 50 percent battery life before beginning the process. Your device also cannot be rooted. Otherwise, just for those who like to keep track, the software version (before the update) should be 1.27.531.8.

This update has already begun rolling out and will be delivered in full by August 9th. With that in mind, those using an HTC One with T-Mobile now have two options — sit back and wait for the update notification to arrive or take the proactive approach and seek it out. With that in mind, while an update is always nice — especially when it is bringing these types of improvements — it is sometimes wise to have some patience and not be the first to update.
