Alleged Sony Honami Mini codename leaked, along with blurry image

Sony

Rumors about the Sony Honami Mini first appeared last month, further helped along by a statement made by a member of the Sony board of directors, which indicated the possibility of a flagship-like device with a smaller form factor to allegedly take on the upcoming iPhone. That being said, it’s been very quiet with regards to a possible Honami Mini, until a couple of rumors appeared in as many days.

A new XDA member, XLeaky, has posted a (blurry) image of a Sony device which could be the  Mini version of the company’s latest flagship, with the caption, “You didn’t see this from me… but 4th of Sep is gonna be exciting! Thats all I’m saying!”

Appearing next to the Blackberry Q10 gives us a good indication of the size of the device, but if you’re looking for specifics, Senior XDA member vivftp is here to help.

sony honami mini size

The statement alleging an IFA 2013 release, and the dimensions of the device mean the the Honami Mini could feature a display size as small as 4-inch, which brings into question the second rumor.

A new rumor suggests that the Honami Mini, internally codenamed Itsuki, is in fact in the works for a Q4 launch, and, as earlier rumored, will feature high end specs, such as -

  • 2.3 Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 4.3-inch display with 720p resolution
  • 2GB RAM
  • 20.7 MP Sony G Lens camera
  • 16GB internal storage
  • 2,400 mAh battery

First, I have to mention that it’s great to see at least one OEM move away from the “accepted” standard of mid-size means mid-range specs. But, if the rumored specs are true, it has to be said that the image of the device above is quite small to house a 4.3-inch display.

As is the case with any such leaks, take it with a grain a salt. Apart from the leaked image above, there is no other information on whether the device is the Sony Honami Mini, or whether the device will in fact be featured during IFA 2013. We generally have a very good idea about what to expect a week or two before the launch of a device, and unless Sony has done an amazing job of keeping the Honami Mini under wraps, the fact that a leaked image has appeared ten days before launch with no other information is certainly questionable.

What are your thoughts? Are you looking forward to a high-end device in a 4-inch form factor? Do you think the Sony Honami Mini is going to show up at next week’s event? Let us know in the comments section below.
