Verizon LG G2 to support wireless charging
Aug 8th 2013, 17:13, by Cory Gunther

Yesterday we finally found out nearly all the details about the new LG G2 smartphone. The flagship device from LG looking to take on the competition. With a 5.2-inch world’s thinnest 1080p HD display, quad-core processor and more this phone is pretty exciting. They confirmed it will be available on all four major US carriers, and now we’ve learned Verizon will have one exclusive on the device.

LG revealed that with 90 days their new G2 smartphone is expected to be available from nearly 100 different carriers on a global basis. Which means they’re pushing this new smartphone quite hard. We mentioned all 4 major US carriers would receive it. Not to mention T-Mobile and Verizon have both confirmed they’ll be rocking the device this summer.

Verizon tweeted a photo of their version, complete with the Verizon Wireless and 4G LTE logo everywhere. It’ll have three Verizon logos, and two LG logos. Branding everywhere! At first we weren’t digging it, but now we know why it’ll have Verizon branding all over the back. That’s because Verizon will be the exclusive US carrier to have an LG G2 with wireless charging.

We’ve reached out to LG and Verizon for more details, and will update once we hear more, but it looks like the rear of the G2 on Verizon will have some extra features. So that could be why they decided to brand the heck out of it. The Optimus G Pro and latest Verizon Lucid 2 all featured wireless charging, so we’re assuming Verizon will bundle that LG Qi Wireless charger with the new G2 when the time comes.

Stay tuned for more details as we’ll update when we learn more. And tell us, does adding wireless charging capabilities make you want this phone more? Find out everything about the G2 from our hands-on.

Hisense Sero 7 Pro and Sero 7 LT tablets get a drop in price
Aug 8th 2013, 17:00, by Robert Nelson

Hisense announced a pair of Android tablets back in May. Those two devices included the Sero 7 Pro and Sero 7 LT. Both tablets came available in the US and seem to have arrived as a lower price option for those who may had been considering a Nexus 7. In fact, the Sero 7 Pro shared many of the same specs as the Google tablet.

The price of the Sero 7 Pro has dropped to $129, which is down from $149. Granted, this model may not seem quite as appealing when compared to the new Nexus 7. Needless to say, while the specs are not necessarily equal at this point, the Sero 7 Pro is $100 lower than the Nexus 7 at this point. And for some that may be enough to convince them.

The Sero 7 Pro tablet is running Android 4.2 and sporting features to include a 7-inch (1280 x 800) display, quad-core 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 2 megapixel front-facing camera and 5 megapixel rear-facing camera. There is also WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC and a battery that is said to be able to provide up to 10 hours of run time.

Shifting over to the Sero 7 LT and we find another $20 price drop. In this case the tablet has dropped from $99 down to $79. This model doesn’t have as exciting of specs, but again sometimes it is hard to argue with price. The LT has a 7-inch (1024 x 600) display, dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 3400 mAh battery, a front-facing camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Bottom line here, while we suspect some tend to avoid the names that aren’t as familiar when it comes to buying gadgets — this is a case where you may be surprised. With that in mind, the Hisense tablets are available by way of Walmart.

Google My Tracks update improves location accuracy, battery usage, more
Aug 8th 2013, 15:44, by Robert Nelson

The Google My Tracks app is one that can keep track of your data while out and about. The app promises to be able to keep track of your path, speed, distance and elevation while you are walking, running, biking or driving. While the app has been around for some time now, a recent update has made the app a bit smarter. Well, smarter along with some other improvements.

As far as getting smarter, the app is now able to automatically detect how you are traveling — such as walking, biking or driving. While that aspect alone sounds good enough there was also another perk that frequent My Tracks users will likely welcome. This update also brings better accuracy and battery improvements due to what Google refers to as a “new location provider.”

In addition, My Tracks also received a new stats view and users can now select multiple tracks and also merge tracks and play them in Google Earth. There was also a new landscape view added within the app. This update aside, the My Tracks app still has some of the core features that likely brought users in the first place.

Those not familiar with this app may not realize that My Tracks allows you to view the data live, annotate your paths and also hear voice announcements detailing your progress. This all may sound familiar with some other health and fitness activity trackers, however there is also the Google integration to consider with My Tracks.

Google allows users to sync and share their tracks in Google Drive and easily share over Google+. The tracks can also be exported to other Google properties including Google Maps, Google Fusion Tables and Google Spreadsheets. Of course, you can also export to external storage and share to other social sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
