Alleged Android 4.4 KitKat screens emerge over weekend
Sep 23rd 2013, 13:31, by Scott Webster

Got your salt shaker handy? Good, you’ll need it for this one. A 9to5Google source provided a handful of screens of what is reported to be Android 4.4 KitKat over the weekend. They look convincing, sure, but there are also tiny details that give pause for concern.

You’ll notice in the images show variable colored apps that are also complemented by matching notification bars – a first in Android. We’ve heard that at some point we should be able to select whatever color theme we want for our experience and this could be proof of that idea. The dialer looks to be a completely reworked app and may be one of multiple redesigns.  That is, of course, assuming this is all legit.

There are a few alarms and potential red flags to consider with these screens; the fact that Mr. Jingles (Google+) shows up in the message app definitely seems weird. Then again, this could be a sign that true unified messaging could be around the corner.

With only a few weeks to go until the rumored debut of Android 4.4 KitKat, the Nexus 5, and the Nexus 10 refresh, we should look for more leaks and details. Whether it’s conflicting stuff or more confirmation, we’ll be watching closely.

By the way, did you know that you could get this sort of look and feel (per app colors) with custom ROM ParanoidAndroid today?
