Notion Ink MB-OX 10.1 launched, available in India
Sep 23rd 2013, 02:45, by Juan Carlos Torres

The somewhat popular, if not unpopular, tablet manufacturer Notion Ink has been quite low-key for some time now, but it seems it wasn’t just lying around. The company has just released a budget 10-inch Android tablet called the MB-OX 10.1 that is currently available only in India.

For the record, this is not the rumored Adam II tablet, the successor to its disappointing first tablet released in very late 2010. The Notion Ink Adam was curious at best, promising a great many things, especially a unique interface on top of Android, but was not able to deliver on its promise, or not even on time. The Adam II might be the company’s redemption, but we probably cannot be blamed if we take a more cautious stance this time around.

This new tablet from Notion Ink does sound somewhat similar to the hardware that the Adam II is rumored to have, which is to say, unimpressive. It is powered by an unnamed dual-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9 processor and 1 GB of RAM, with 8 GB of internal storage. It sports a 10.1-inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. It doesn’t have 3G or even Bluetooth, so users will have to attach a USB dongle to have those functionality.

If the specs sound low-end, at least it has a price to match. The Notion Ink MB-OX 10.1 carries a price tag of 10,999 rupees, or roughly $177, but is so far sold only in India, with no news of global availability.

HTC HD2 receives Sense 5 ROM
Sep 23rd 2013, 01:24, by Juan Carlos Torres

And so the epic journey continues as the almost legendary HTC HD2 smartphone receives yet another breath of life. Thanks to some ardent souls over at XDA developers, the well-aged smartphone is getting the latest iteration of HTC’s custom Android interface, the HTC Sense 5.

The HTC HD2 began its journey way back in late 2009 as a Windows Mobile phone, back in the days when it was still called Windows Mobile. But through the device’s hackable nature and no small amount of effort on the part of its devoted users, the HD2 slowly made its way up the ranks of Android devices, first getting Android 2.2 Froyo, then 2.3 Gingerbread, and finally receiving CyanogenMod 9 in May last year, which brought Android 4.0 Ice Scream Sandwich and Sense 4.0.

Now thanks to the work done by XDA senior member gilbert32 and a number of acknowledged volunteers, the four-year old smartphone is getting a new lease on life and a facelift to boot. The ROM is currently a work in progress and so not everything is currently functional. Touchscreen, cellular connection and data work so far, but leaves WiFi, Bluetooth, camera, sound and video playback still unusable. You can see the ROM in action in the video below.

There is definitely a bit of sluggishness and, as mentioned, not everything is working yet. But it is already a miracle that something this old, at least in mobile device terms, would still be able to get something this new, and will be even more of a miracle if and when they get everything working again.
