Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with flexible display tipped for next month
Sep 23rd 2013, 14:37, by Robert Nelson

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 3 at an event earlier in the month. The handset saw plenty of rumors in the lead up to that announcement, and as Samsung and the carriers were pretty forthcoming in terms of specs and release details — those rumors had come to an end. But it looks like they have kicked-off once again. The rumors are touching back on a Galaxy Note 3 with flexible display.

This was an item that had been rumored in the lead up to the official announcement, but as we learned, that was not something that was announced. Well, it now looks like rumors are suggesting that Samsung will be releasing another variant of the Galaxy Note 3 in October and this time around it will have the flexible display technology.

Anyway, as we often find with rumors, the details are on the light side at this time. Basically, what we are seeing is coming out of Korea and suggesting that Samsung will be releasing a Galaxy Note 3 with a flexible OLED as early as October. Further details suggest the handset will only be produced in limited quantities though.

There was no mention of other specs with talk of the flexible display model, however with a handset that is expected to debut next month — the rumors should be ending soon enough. Similar to the limited quantities, we would expect this variant of the Note 3 to also be available in limited markets. With that, we still have a few weeks before this handset is rumored to be announced, which really just means that more rumors are likely.

OPPO N1 official with rotating 13 megapixel camera
Sep 23rd 2013, 13:58, by Robert Nelson

As we had been expecting, the OPPO N1 has been officially announced. There is some time before the handset will be available for purchase, however OPPO has offered a full set of specs — including details on how the handset will be the first to ship with CyanogenMod preinstalled. First things first though, the specs and the breakdown of the different models and availability.

The folks at OPPO are touting the N1 as bringing “innovation in choice.” This is the part that deals with CyanogenMod and Color. And for those not as familiar, Color is the name of the OS the OPPO N1 will ship with. Color is described as being a “unique Android operating system with over 400 unique features and improvements over stock Android.” Perhaps key for some, Color is based on Android 4.2.

In terms of Color and CyanogenMod, the international version of the N1 will ship with Color as well as the ability to flash CyanogenMod from the stock recovery. There will also be a limited OPPO N1 CyanogenMod Edition that will ship with CM preinstalled. Moving past the operating system and we also learn the OPPO N1 will be available in a 16GB and 32GB model and the handset is expected to arrive in early-December.

Hardware specs for the OPPO N1 include a 5.9-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, Adreno 320 graphics, a 3160 mAh battery, WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and the following in terms of connectivity; GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and WCDMA: 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz. The handset will also have a 13 megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

Aside from being 13 megapixels, the camera is also able to rotate — up to 206 degrees, which makes this the first smartphone with a rotating camera. Finally, OPPO also has something called the O-Touch Panel and O-Click Control. The former is a 12cm rear-touch panel that allows for scrolling, tapping and even capturing images. The latter will allow you to remotely capture images using a Bluetooth connection. The O-Click Control also works as a device finder.

Tesco has said the tablet will sell for £119, however those with a Clubcard will be able to get a bit of an extra discount. For this the retailer has said the tablet will be available on the Clubcard Boost which will bring the price down to “less than £100.”

Aside from the display, the Hudl tablet will be running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and sporting a quad-core 1.5GHz processor along with 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot with support for cards up to 32GB in size. In addition, the those considering a purchase should know the tablet will have a battery life of up to 9 hours (for video) along with dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and microHDMI along with a matte, soft-touch back and scratch-resistant display.

Along with the price point, another item Tesco is pushing with the Hudl is family. For this they have said the tablet will ship with some software options (that will be presented at first boot) to help parents better set up the device for children. And as the children aspect has come into play here, Tesco also has child-friendly accessories including a bright bumper case and headphones.
