Sony Xperia Tablet Z Kitchen Edition unveiled
Sep 12th 2013, 14:18, by Robert Nelson

Sony has unveiled their latest tablet, well, technically the latest variant of the Xperia Tablet Z. This one is dubbed the Kitchen Edition and will be arriving for tablet loving foodies that happen to be located in the US. This Xperia Tablet Z is being touted as the “perfect kitchen companion” and will be arriving with both hardware and software related goodies for those who prefer to spend time in the kitchen.

To begin with, the Xperia Tablet Z Kitchen Edition will be familiar hardware for those who have already been checking out the regular model Xperia Tablet Z. That is to say the Kitchen Edition will have a 10.1-inch HD display that is powered by the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 with 32GB of internal storage. This Kitchen Edition model will be white and available as WiFi only. It will also have a carbon-fiber back and the same water-resistant design as the regular model.

Perhaps key here — the kitchen related extras. Sony has said this includes $115 worth of accessories, content and recipes. This includes the iGrill from iDevices which is an app-enabled Bluetooth thermometer that can be monitored remotely (from up to 200 feet away). The Kitchen Edition Xperia Tablet Z will also include a foldable stand as well as several pre-loaded apps to include BigOven, Evernote Food, Juicing Recipes, Food Planner Pro, iGrill Pro and Out of Milk Shopping List.

There will also be recipes and a how-to video series. In total there will be 260 recipes included on the tablet, which Sony has listed as being “one for each weekday of the year.” As for that how-to video series, that will be provided by Saveur.

All that being said, Sony has the Xperia Tablet Z Kitchen Edition sitting with a price tag of $649. Otherwise, the non-Kitchen Edition of the Xperia Tablet Z remains available in the US market and is available in a 16GB and 32GB storage option with price points of $499.99 and $599.99 respectively.

OPPO N1 teasing continues ahead of upcoming announcement
Sep 12th 2013, 13:47, by Robert Nelson

OPPO has recently shared the latest teaser for the N1 smartphone. This arrives as trailer #3 and measures in at just 28 seconds in length. This video fits firmly into the teaser category and while it does leave us wanting to see a bit more — we do have to remember the official announcement will be coming fairly soon. In fact, OPPO has already said they will be unveiling the N1 smartphone on September 23rd.

In the meantime, we have these teaser videos. Anyway, this video is trailer three and judging from the countdown on the OPPO website it would appear as if there will be more videos to follow. As previously mentioned, this video lives up to the teaser name and doesn’t offer much in the way of firm details. Instead what we are seeing seems to be a look at the manufacturing process.

If nothing else, OPPO does appear to be pushing the N1 rather hard. Or at the very least, they appear to be pushing the N1 quite a bit more as compared to what we saw with the Find 5. Time will tell what that means in terms of device sales once the handset is available, however there does appear to be some pre-launch interest.

Looking back to some of the earlier details revealed by OPPO and we find talk of the display and back of the phone. OPPO has been going with the tagline of how the N1 will be a “large screen smartphone with an amazing camera.” They have yet to confirm any details in terms of the camera, however the display will be 5.9-inches in size. The other bit was the rear touch panel which while we have yet to see many specifics, OPPO has been saying the N1 will bring a “brand new user experience.”

ZTE Supreme joins Virgin Mobile with 5-inch display and 13MP camera
Sep 12th 2013, 13:28, by Robert Nelson

Virgin Mobile has officially launched the Supreme smartphone, which coincidentally, is the second ZTE handset to arrive with the carrier this week. This latest is running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and with features to include LTE connectivity and a 5-inch display. Virgin Mobile has the ZTE Supreme available beginning today with for use with any of the Beyond Talk plans which began at $35 per month.

Diving a bit deeper with the specs and we find a handset that is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor with a microSD card slot, 2500 mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 1 megapixel front-facing camera. Flipping over to the backside and users will also find a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera that is capable of recording 1080p HD video.

That all being said, the ZTE Supreme is priced at $299.99. While that may sound higher than expected, you do have to remember that is a contract-free price. With Virgin Mobile there are no long term commitments. Touching back on those plans, the $35 per month option includes unlimited messaging and data along with 300 voice minutes per month.

The Beyond Talk options then go to $45 and $55 per month and each of those keep the same unlimited messages and data found on the low-end plan. The $45 per month plan brings the voice minutes to 1200 and the $55 per month plan bumps the voice minutes to unlimited. The one catch with the Beyond Talk plans comes with mobile hotspot, that is not included, but is available as a $15 per month add-on feature.

Looking back to earlier in the week, that previous handset was the ZTE Awe which launched with a price of $99.99. The Awe is running Jelly Bean and sporting a 4-inch display with 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and 3G connectivity.
