Xiaomi runs through 110,000 MI3 smartphones in "Singles Day" flash sale
Nov 11th 2013, 15:27, by Robert Nelson

Xiaomi has been doing some flash-sales recently. These sales have the company making a limited number of devices available for sale at a specified time and keeping them up until sold out. Back in October we saw Xiaomi sell through 100,000 units of the MI3 smartphone in about 90 seconds. This most recent flash sale didn’t have the handset selling out that quickly, but another 110,000 went in minutes.

Basically, that is to say that Xiaomi may have something good going with these flash sales. But with that in mind, this most recent sale was done for “Single’s Day” which according to Hugo Barra, this is “basically the opposite of Valentine’s Day and people celebrate their bachelor lives rather than their love.” Or as Xiaomi appears to have proven, it is “also serious business.”

Details of the sale show that Xiaomi released 380,000 devices in total. These were split up between 110,000 MI3 smartphones, 110,000 Hongmi smartphones, 110,000 2S smartphones and 50,000 set-top boxes. It was said the MI3 sold out in the first three minutes time. And along with the MI3 models, the Hongmi sold out just as quickly.

According to details coming from Techinasia, Xiaomi was able to bring RMB107 million in sales revenue from the initial blast in latest flash sale. That equates to about $17.5 million in terms of US dollars and also made Xiaomi the first company on Tmall to break the RMB100 million benchmark.

Things didn’t appear to have stopped close to the RMB107 milestone though. Further details point towards the sale topping RMB300 after the 30 minute mark. Otherwise, aside from the October flash sale, Xiaomi also managed to sell 100,000 units of the WCDMA Hongmi devices in four minutes time during a sale that took place last week.

Sony Xperia Z1S leak tips 4.3-inch 720p display
Nov 11th 2013, 14:59, by Robert Nelson

The Sony Xperia Z1S was expected to be announced at a Shanghai press event on November 12th. The catch with that, Sony has yet to confirm which device, or devices they were going to announce during the event. And while Sony has yet to confirm the Xperia Z1S announcement is coming on the 12th, a recent leak certainly suggests that is the device that will be announced.

The Sony Mobile Global Site briefly posted details of the handset. These have since been removed, however the handset has been the subject of earlier rumors and as such, the specs have all been fully detailed. Sony is expected to announce the Xperia Z1S with a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 display and 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM.

Other still rumored specs for the handset include 16GB of internal storage, a 2300 mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 2.2 megapixel front-facing camera and 20.7 megapixel rear-facing camera. The device should also arrive with the now familiar for Sony, IP55 and IP58 certifications for dust and water resistance as well as Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Basically, while Sony has yet to say exactly what the “S” in the name stands for, given the leaked specs, that seems to suggest it will stand for “small.” That all having been said, we will be on the lookout for the official announcement coming out of China, and for now, while the handset seems to be all but confirmed, we do have to remember that leaks and rumors can sometimes change.

OPPO N1 arrives for those in China
Nov 11th 2013, 14:29, by Robert Nelson

OPPO has officially launched the N1 smartphone for those in China. The OPPO N1 was originally introduced back in September and more recently we learned the CyanogenMod model will begin shipping in December. And while the CyanogenMod model was expected to be available in limited quantities, it looks like the same can be said about the regular model in China.

The handset has been made available through the OPPO online store and 10,000 units will be available. This is the 16GB model and the handset is priced at CNY3498, which is roughly $575 in terms of US dollars. The success of the OPPO N1 remains to be seen, however the handset does have some unique and also some not often seen features.

To begin with, the OPPO N1 has a one camera — as opposed to a separate front and rear facing. The camera is 13 megapixel and the lens is able to rotate 206 degrees. The camera is a Sony sensor and sports an F2.0 aperture. The handset also has something called O-Click, which has been dubbed the “camera assistant.” In this case the O-Click is a small fob that can be used to take pictures from a few feet away.

The other not often seen smartphone feature is the touchpad, which in this case, goes by the name O-Touch. This one is fairly simple, but it will allow for navigation. Otherwise, the OPPO N1 has a 5.9-inch (1920 x 1080 and 377 ppi) display along with a Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 3610 mAh battery.

Touching back on the OPPO N1 CyanogenMod edition and that one will ship running Cyanogen. There will also be some special packaging as well as some CyanogenMod stickers included in the box. But while this model will ship running CyanogenMod out of the box, the other non-CM models of the N1 will be easy to switch over as they will be shipped rooted with a custom recovery allowing users to easily flash CyanogenMod.
