Back in September, Oppo officially unveiled its latest flagship device, the Oppo N1. At the time, the company also announced they would be working with CyanogenMod to produce a limited edition handset that would run on CyanogenMod out of the box.
Now Oppo has come forward with a few more details about their partnership. As it turns out, there will be both a limited and standard edition of the N1 shipping internationally in December. No word on pricing just yet, though we’d imagine somewhere in the $550 – $650 range.
So what makes the limited edition so special? This version of the handset not only comes with CyanogenMod running out of the box, it also has special CM stickers and packaging. There’s even a special case that features the mascots from Oppo and CM.
Both handsets will have the same version of CyanogenMod, which not only includes standard CM features but also adds Oppo software customizations to the mix.
The standard international Oppo N1 will run Oppo’s ColorROM by default, but actually includes CyanogenMod pre-loaded on the hardware. This means that you don’t need to root or install custom recovery to make the switch to CM. Flashing to the new ROM is as simple as opening up Oppo’s N1 stock recovery.
Both handsets will have the same version of CyanogenMod, which not only includes standard CM features but also adds Oppo software customizations to the mix. That means CyanogenMod will support features like the O-Touch back panel, O-Click Bluetooth remote, the device's rotating camera and will even borrow some of the same special Oppo features found on the ColorROM.
Of course the hardware in both models is the same. For those that need the reminder, we’re talking about a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU with 2GB of RAM. There’s also 16/32GB storage, a rotating 13MP camera, a back touch panel, a 5.9-inch 1080p Full HD display, and a 3610 mAh battery.
