G all the things: LG trademarks G Pad, G Glass, G Watch, and more G stuff

Last week LG revealed what had been pretty much an open secret – that it would drop the Optimus brand for its high-end offerings and use the "G" brand instead. The first device to sport the new branding will be the successor to the Optimus G, dubbed LG G2, but a series of trademark filings indicate that more G devices are in the pipeline.

As spotted by Pocket Droid, LG has filled applications for the following marks:

  • G Pad
  • G Watch
  • G Glass
  • G Link
  • G Band
  • G Hub

The applications were filed at KIPO, the South Korean intellectual property authority, and it's important to note that their existence doesn't guarantee that commercial products with those names would ever hit the market.

With that said, these marks seem to add credibility to rumors we've heard before about LG's entry in the budding wearable computing business. The Korean electronics maker was reported to work on a Glass-like device and a smartwatch, as well as other "futuristic projects". It's only speculation, but we can assume that G Watch, G Glass, and G Band refer to wearable devices. As for the other marks, they probably refer to software products, perhaps similar to Samsung's suite of S apps.

The LG G2 will be revealed on August 7 at a New York event, and it's possible that LG will use the occasion to reveal a few more G surprises.
