motorola droid maxx leak feature

Like the Moto X, Verizon's new Motorola-made devices have been leaked ad nauseam. But while we got to see what the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini will look like, and learned about most of their specifications, we haven't heard anything concrete about one important aspect – battery size.

Not anymore – the folks at Android Police just revealed the battery size of the three devices, with mere hours left to their official unveiling. The source could not be more official – Motorola's regulatory filings at the FCC.

This is what we're looking at:

  • Droid Mini – 2,000 mAh
  • Droid Ultra – 2,130 mAh
  • Droid Maxx – 3,500 mAh

Compare the new Droids with their predecessors, and you'll see that, somehow disappointingly, it's not all updates across the board. The Droid Mini features the same 2000 mAh unit as the 2012 Droid Razr M, the Ultra actually has a smaller unit than the 2530 mAh unit on the 2012 Droid Razr HD, while Motorola deserves credit for upping the battery on the Droid Maxx by 200 mAh over last year's 3,200 mAh Maxx.

Besides the battery size, the FCC docs also reveal that at least the Droid Mini and Droid Maxx will support wireless charging out of the box, and there's a good chance that the Ultra will have the same feature, though the filings don't explicitly mention wireless charging in its case.

Will the whopping 3,500 mAh battery be enough to power the Droid Maxx through 48 hours of sustained usage? Verizon certainly thinks so, suggests a commercial storyboard that leaked recently, but we'll refrain from emitting any definitive judgments until we get to see it for ourselves. Still, at 3,500 mAh, the Droid Maxx is, to our knowledge, leading the industry in terms of battery size.

Verizon will launch the new Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and the Droid Mini today at a New York event, so stay tuned to get all the official details.
