Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Android 4.2.2 updates begin
Aug 5th 2013, 14:26, by Robert Nelson

Samsung seems to have begun rolling out an Android 4.2.2 update for another two devices. These latest are both tablets. Specifically, the Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE and the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. As always, the catch with Android device updates is these tend to rollout by markets. And in this case it looks like we have an update beginning in the UK and France.

The update details for the Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE show an update that is arriving first for those in the UK. The download files for this update have come available for those willing to download and install from scratch. But otherwise, the update is in the process of rolling out both over-the-air and also by way of Kies.

While many likely suspected the Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE would see Android 4.2.2, this other update has arrived with a bit more surprise. This update is for the 3G-equipped version of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and it has begun first for those in France. This update is also coming over-the-air and through Kies.

That being said, while these updates are both available in one market at this point, it seems likely that will spread sooner rather than later. The Galaxy Note 8.0 update is shown to be more than 1GB in size and the Tab 2 7.0 while under a GB, is still nearly 900MB in size. Bottom line here, while these are both cellular equipped tablets, these updates seem like they will be better delivered with a WiFi connection.

LG G2 user manual leaks as another promo video is shared
Aug 5th 2013, 13:53, by Robert Nelson

The LG G2 has yet to be officially announced, however it looks like we are getting some additional details this week. The latest round of G2 related news and leaks has arrived in the form of an LG provided teaser video and a leaked user manual. With that being said, lets start off with the teaser video, which comes by way of LG and is dubbed the “LG G2 Manifesto Film.”

Screen-Shot-2013-07-22-at-4.16.07-PM-526x54012

This teaser measures in at just shy of 1 minute and 30 seconds and talks about the differences between human and technology. Aside from the obvious reasons, the video points towards how technology can make mistakes and humans turn mistakes into opportunities. Of course, that was just one of the provided examples. The interesting part of the video was how LG appeared to be building up humans and pushing down the technology.

That point was made clear towards the end when they mention “there’s no greater technology than humans.” Of course, that brought us to the line we have heard from LG in the recent past about how the LG G2 will be “learning from you.” Simply put, it is looking like the LG G2 will bring much of the focus on the user experience as opposed to the specs. A move that we recently saw with the Moto X announcement.

Shifting away from the video and we also have the leaked user manual. People seem to get excited about user manual leaks, but the strange part about that is those same user manuals often go unread when they arrive in the box with the smartphone. Anyway, this manual arrived as a total of 220 pages, but in Korean.

Language barrier aside, there were some details revealed. For example, the manual pointed towards the handset as having measurements of 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9mm. The G2 will weigh in at 143 grams. Other details from the manual show the handset as having a microSD card slot, using a nano-SIM card and sporting a 2610 mAh battery. And finally, the backside of the phone will have the volume up/down rocker with a power/lock button sitting in the middle.

Samsung Galaxy Note III announcement date set for September 4
Aug 5th 2013, 13:21, by Robert Nelson

Samsung didn’t come right out and say they were going to be announcing the Galaxy Note III on September 4th, however the hints dropped in this latest Unpacked event invitation seem to have made things pretty clear. Invitations for the Unpacked 2013 Episode 2 have recently been sent out and Samsung has asked everyone to “Note the Date.” If that doesn’t suggest the Note III we aren’t certain what else would.

That being said, this really just puts a confirmation to the earlier rumors. Simply put, we have long been expecting Samsung to officially announce the Galaxy Note III during IFA. The catch now will be how much they reveal. It seems more than likely they will confirm the specs and details of the handset itself, but then there will be the release dates, prices and carrier details.

The spec related rumors have varied from time to time, however there are a few details that seem to be sticking from rumor to rumor. For example, most of the speculation has pointed towards the Note III as having a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display and 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with Xenon flash. Of course, there will also be the S Pen, which is a regular feature of the Note lineup.

Some of the other spec related rumors have pointed towards the handset as having a dedicated camera button, 3GB of RAM and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface on top. In terms of the processor, that has been an items that seems to have gone back and forth. And otherwise, as we often see with Samsung, the Galaxy Note III is expected to bring several model numbers which will vary depending on market and carrier.

But in the end, at least we now have confirmation on the date of the event. The better part is the event is now less than one month away, but on the flip side, this will likely send the rumors into overdrive.
