Another really cool feature on the Moto X is Motorola Connect. It will allow you to see incoming text messages and calls coming into your Moto X via your desktop or notebook’s Chrome browser. You can even respond to texts, which is more efficient and will extend the life of your battery. For incoming calls, you will be able to see exactly who is calling you so you can decide if you need to take the call or click ignore to deal with it later. It’s easy to setup so hit the break to get started.

The first thing you will want to do is go to Settings / Active Notifications. Under computer, you will see “Motorola Connect.” Assuming that you haven’t setup Motorola Connect before, it will say “Tap here to get started” Just follow the prompts to enable Motorola Connect and link it to your Gmail account. If you have already set it up previously, you will instead see a checkbox along with a settings icon. Make sure Motorola Connect is on by checking the box. The settings icon will allow you to change the Motorola Device ID to another Gmail address if you wish, so tap on it to make sure you have the right Gmail address associated with it.

Now that your phone is ready to rock and roll, you need to get your desktop ready. Motorola Connect will only work with the Chrome web browser. It’s the best browser available today, so if you don’t already have it installed, then grab it here. Once you have Chrome open, make sure you are logged into your Gmail account. Now it’s time to download the Motorola Connect extension for Chrome. Click on “Add to Chrome” at the right. Follow the prompts and choose your Gmail address. Within a minute or two, it will install the extension, connect to your phone, and download your text messages and calling history. What’s even cooler is that Motorola Connect will now be installed on all the computers you use, assuming you login with your Gmail account and are using Chrome.

There will be a little Motorola Icon at the top right of your Chrome Browser. You can tap on that at anytime and you will get a popup showing your recent texts and calls. You can also send texts from here as well. Whenever you get new calls or texts, a small popup will appear at the bottom right along with clickable actions such as “reply” or “ignore.” If you step away from your computer (and phone), you will see any calls or texts that you may have missed when you get back. Motorola Connect will even let you know if you have a voicemail. Once you use Motorola Connect for a bit, you will wonder how you lived without it for so long.

I put together a tutorial video showing you everything I just went over. Check it out below and be sure to check out all our Moto X guides.
