It looks like someone from Verizon support let the cat out of the bag a little early on Twitter. Yesterday a Tweet was sent out to a customer about an option to get 6GB of data for $30. This deal appears to be aimed at customers that still have unlimited data and are reluctant to drop it by paying for a new phone on contract. Recently Verizon launched Edge for those customers that want the ability to upgrade their phones more often than every two years. It allows them to spread out the full retail price of a phone over 24 months and upgrade anytime after 6 months if at least 50% of the phone is paid off. However,  any unlimited data customer that joins Edge would lose their unlimited status. So therefore, the only way to keep unlimited data would be to pay full retail for the phone upfront.

This $30/6GB option appears to be a way to entice current unlimited data customers to join the Edge program, but still feel satisfied they have a lot of data. According to Droid Life, this deal will be called Verizon Max, and I assume that it will be available starting August 25th, when the Edge program officially begins. Although the details of the plan hasn’t been officially unveiled, it’s safe to assume that the 6GB won’t be shareable.
