Update - 158

T-Mobile is apparently gearing up to launch another mid-range device on the network as FCC filings reveal Huawei’s new “Prism”, model number U8651T.  The device has passed certification and closely resembles the Huawei Sonic we saw last year which launched on Magenta.  Nothing special to note here folks as the device appears to house simple yet doable standards.  Expect a 3.5-inch display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and 512 MB of RAM.  Should make for a decent little guy on the network we’re guessing.  Stay tuned as we dig for more specs like whether or not the device will be capable of hitting T-Mobile’s 42 Mbps. Until then, feel free to speculate in the comments below.

One of the biggest features I love about custom ROMs is the amount of tweaks and toggles you have at the touch of a finger tip. If you’re like me you’re always looking for more toggles to easily turn on or off various features quickly and easily; the 4G LTE toggle  is just one example. Well we have a simple tweak for you if you’re running CM9 or any if its many variants that adds a bunch of features to the notification bar. This tweak, developed by rob43, adds the following features to your CM9 ROM:
  • Transparency
  • Status Bar Layout
  • Date Format
  • Brightness Control
  • Horizontal Recents Panel
  • Clock Location
  • Power Widget Options
If you’re interested in adding these features to your notification bar you can scroll on down a bit further to get your taste of extra toggle goodness. All you have to do is flash it in your recovery, clear your Dalvik cache, and reboot. It’s as easy as that. Once you reboot the device you can access your new toggles in the reloaded settings of your launcher of choice. Let us know how you like these new features in the comment section below. Enjoy!

The LG Lucid 4G, which had been code named the LG Cayman, is showing its face in these new pics. The leaked pics don’t show too much to comment on, so we’re expecting a mid-range Android phone for Verizon.
We’ve previously reported on a leaked document that named March 29 as the release date, most likely for under $200.
Here are the leaked specs:
  • dual-core 1.2GHz processor
  • 4G LTE
  • 8 GB of internal storage
  • 5 megapixel rear camera with 1080p video
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • Android 2.3
  • 4-inch, WVGA NOVA display, capable of 700 nits of brightness
The model number for the LG Lucid is VS840, which lands it in Verizon’s lineup between the LG Enlighten (VS700) and LG Spectrum (VS920).
What are you thoughts on the LG Lucid?

Ahh, is it that time of season already?  Rovio is keeping it going strong with their latest iteration to the Angry Birds franchise.  The company has updated their Spring version of the game, Cherry Blossom Festival in preparation for the upcoming season.  So, while we’re all still waiting for Angry Birds Space to hit the ground running on a device that is not the Galaxy Note, here’s a little something to take the edge off.  The Spring time app will offer the Cherry Blossom and Japanese themed game with fifteen standard levels and two bonus levels that are hidden.  And there doesn’t appear to be an intro to any new birds that we can see in case you were wondering.  They’re saving those for Angry Birds Space which we could see on or around March 22nd.  Fingers are crossed.  Feel free to leave a comment or two below and don’t forget to take some pigs and kick some names for us.

I am always a fan of trying new apps out. I am especially a fan of trying apps out that make the most used apps on my Nexus even better. Over the past few months I’ve come to rely on using my device as my daily driver for music listening and media viewing. As this continues to be the case I am finding that the various apps I’ve been using to be somewhat sluggish and clunky. I don’t know why but I feel like I stumble through them in a hap-hazard like manner. Well thanks to the n7player I no longer feel that way as it brings us a polished user interface and some decent features. They include:
  • - Innovative, fully multi-touch music albums plane
  • - Intuitive music catalog showing: albums, artists, genres etc
  • - 5 band graphic equalizer with presets, reverb effects, bass boost and sound virtualization (SRS/Dolby Surround, requires system version 2.3+)
  • - Automatic and manual album art download
  • - ID3 tags editor
  • - Filtered file browser
  • - Music widget
  • - Lockscreen widget with direct unlock option
While it may not boast all of the features as PowerAmp it still offers some impressive features. As of right now it’s in limited public beta so if you’re interested in trying it out and giving feedback then hit the break to find the Google Play link or QR code below. In my opinion, you won’t be sorry if you do. We also have for you a video that showcases some of these awesome features so check that out too. Enjoy!

Apparently, the absurdly priced Samsung Galaxy S Advanced has been delayed and we won’t be seeing it until sometime around the end of the month. The guys over at Clove are pointing towards a March 26th release.  Clove is offering the SIM-free device for a price of £354 ($557) which really isn’t much of a sale if you ask us.  Come to think of it, we’re not sure why this device is even on the market and we’re all wondering who’s going to fork over the serious cash for this “in-between” device when they could be getting a bigger and better devices at a cheaper price.  We’ll let you all decide.  Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.  In the meantime, check out the specs for device comparison.

U.S. senator Charles Schumer has requested that the Federal Trade Commision investigate reports that applications on both iOS and Android platforms are able to steal private photos and contacts and export them to their servers – without the user’s consent. Schumer is concerned about a New York Times report that iOS and Android apps can obtain access to the user’s private photos and contacts.
The senator says that it’s his understanding that the uses in question violate the terms of service of both Apple and Google platforms. “These uses go well beyond what a reasonable user understands himself to be consenting to when he allows an app to access data on the phone for purposes of the app’s functionality,” Schumer said in a letter to the FTC. Schumer also suggests that “smartphone makers should be required to put in place safety measures to ensure third party applications are not able to violate a user’s personal privacy by stealing photographs or data that the user did not consciously decide to make public”, and that phone manufacturers have an obligation to protect the private content of their customers.
This is an interesting allegation, and it’s definitely a little worrisome. Whether or not this holds a severe case I’m sure we’ll find out in the coming days and weeks. It’s common sense that only what the application needs or what you consent to relinquish to the application should be accessed and used, and only according to how you agree for that content to be used.
