march madness
Ah, it’s finally that time of year again. When warm spring air ushers in the end of a long, hard winter, and the beginning of the best month of the year for college basketball fans: March Madness. Whether you’re an all-season type of fan, or the kind that just tunes in for the tournament, chances are you’re not going to be able to make it to a TV to catch all 67 games this year. But fret not fellow Android user. With NCAA March Madness Live for Android, you can view every tournament game and more right from smartphone.
Available now in the Google Play store, Turner Sports Interactive has released NCAA March Madness Live. Giving Android users complete access to all 67 live NCAA basketball games, brackets, social feeds, score alerts and a heap of other in-depth information on the tournament.
The initial app download is free, but certain features, like game streams, are unavailable until you pay a $3.99 fee. Once you pay for the live streaming, you can use the same login info associated with the Android app on your desktop computer for access to games there as well. Before you buy the streaming package, make sure to check the device compatibility list in the March Madness Live app listing. The app doesn’t work on tablets, and streaming is only available for devices running Android 2.2 and 2.3.

Sprint 4G
If you have been thinking about making a switch to Sprint’s unlimited data and awesome prices, now might just be the right time to do it. Amazon is holding a special sale this month, offering all Sprint 4G devices for a mere penny.
The offers starts today, and extends until March 26th. You might not want to wait too long before taking advantage of this, though. Those that sign up before the 19th will get their activation fee waived, saving you a cool $36. As expected, this offer is only available for new customers. Upgrades and added lines will add some cash to your device’s price tag.
But if you are near the end of your contract or plan on switching to Sprint, this is a great chance to get a good deal on some of those high-end devices. Options include the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch (black and white versions), the HTC EVO Design 4G, the HTC EVO 3D, the Samsung Nexus S 4G, the HTC EVO Shift 4G and the Motorola Photon 4G, as well as a bunch of other devices that are not worth getting when all of these bad boys are going for the same price.

Xperia Pepper
A Sony roadmap leaked last January, suggesting three devices would be announced at Mobile World Congress (code named Kumquat, Nypon and Pepper). Only two of these made it to the stage in Barcelona, now named the Xperia P and Xperia U. But what about the third one? An official image of the Pepper (MT27i) has just leaked, and we might see an announcement soon.
The leaked roadmap stated that all three devices would be released next April. So this could be proof that the Xperia Pepper is ready to head out the door. It looks very nice, with all the major characteristics of Sony’s new design. The difference is that it’s lacking the translucent bar. And it looks like there’s a dedicated camera button in there.
Rumored specs include a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 5 MP camera, a 3.7-inch FWVGA screen (854×480), 512 MB of RAM and NFC support. We’re not sure what Android version it will be running. But if it follows recent Sony patterns, it should come with Android 2.3 with an update coming at a later date.
It’s not a bad device, but definitely not the best out there. We’ll have to wait and see how pricing turns out. For now, let’s stay tuned for the official announcement. As always, take this with a grain of salt; these are all unofficial details.
What do you guys think of this device? It’s definitely good looking. But would you rather get the Xperia P or U?

samsung-galaxy-s-blaze-4g-6
We knew that the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G would be released sometime in “late March,” but the exact date had remained a mystery until now. T-Mobile has just announced that this “blazing” device will be released nationwide on March 28th. This date follows a previous March 21st pre-release, in which only select stores will be carrying the smartphone.
The device won’t take your breath away, but it is a good upgrade for those that don’t mind a few downsides. For starters, the Blaze 4G won’t come with Android 4.0. It will be released with Android 2.3, only to be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich later on. And it happens to have a 3.97-inch display, which is a size many would believe to be too small amidst 4.3+” behemoths. Granted, it is a Super AMOLED display, so the nice colors might make up for it.
The device also sports a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, NFC, a 5 MP rear-facing camera (720p HD recording), a 1.3 MP front-facing camera. The Blaze 4G also supports T-Mobile’s  HSPA+42 support for faster data speeds. I see it like mid-end device with a high-end punch in some specs.
As we reported last month, the device will cost $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Of course, you will have to sign your wallet away for 2 years, though with T-Mobile being one of the lowest-cost carriers in the U.S., that should be too much of a problem. But if you are already at it, maybe you should check out this device. Honestly, I would throw in the extra $80 to get a Galaxy S II or an HTC Amaze 4G, but this device just might be the right one for you.
Are any of you thinking of signing up for this one?

htc_generic_phone
With Mobile World Congress in its rear-view mirror, it looks like HTC is already hard at work on its next Android device. Not much is known about HTC’s next phone, but EXIF data from a leaked picture reveals that it will sport a 3 megapixel camera and is currently named HTC Golf.
PocketNow speculates that the HTC Golf will be an entry-level device running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with a sub-gigahertz processor, HVGA display, 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage – a simple replacement for last year’s HTC Wildfire S. While’ the speculation may be easy to digest, we’re

not ready to make any assumtions about the phone based on EXIF data alone. HTC has made it clear that their focus for 2012 will be on “hero” devices, so we find it hard to believe that an HTC Wildfire S replacement would be on their list of prioroties at the moment.
We’re not sure when HTC plans on releasing the HTC Golf, but we can guarantee there will be plently of leaks before they do. Do you think the HTC Golf will be an entry-level Android phone or is HTC planning something a little more memorable?

instagram
Okay, we know, we’ve said this before, and Instagram has been “coming soon” for quite some time now. This time, the words come straight from the horse’s mouth, as Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom announced yesterday at the South by Southwest Conference that the Android version of the insanely popular photo-sharing service would soon launch on Android.
The service has amassed a total of 27 million users on iOS, and expects similar successes on Android with Mr. Systrom calling it “one of the best Android apps you’ll ever see.” While certainly a lofty claim on Instagram’s part, Mr. Systrom went on to bolster that the Android version of Instagram is much faster than its iOS counterpart, and that the Android version is better in some ways than the iOS one.
We can’t help but get a bit excited for Instagram to finally launch. Sure, there are other applications out there that do similar things, but not ones that are so focused on social sharing and feature a user-base of 27 million people. The wait for Instagram should be over very soon, perhaps by the end of the month.
Who else is anxiously awaiting Instagram’s release? Or have you found another application to suit your photo-sharing needs?
